CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE: The Divorce

CARTER’S POV:

The glass of wine shatters against the wall and my scream reverberates with it through the cellar.

Veronica Shultz’s parents are missing! Marius. That coward. I don’t believe he has the guts to kill them, so he’s just probably hiding them. It’s a strategic move, a way to keep me from using them to discredit his claims.

Suddenly, my thoughts are interrupted by a hesitant voice, "Mr. Whitlock, you shouldn’t be drinking right now."

I spin around to shoot my glare at Attorney Culpo. "I'm not paying you to tell me what to do outside of my divorce case. So shut the f.uck up and just do your f.ucking job right!"

Attorney Culpo, silenced and chastened, nods fearfully.

I stride past her and head towards my Bugatti that’s waiting in my garage. Minutes later, the courthouse looms ahead.

Inside one of the courtrooms, my eyes immediately fall on Hazel and Marius sitting next to each other. Pain crashes over me, sharp and relentless. It’s the same agony I felt while helplessly
