CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX: Back To Square One

I have nowhere else to go, but home - in my real home, my beach house.

It’s been a few days, but Marius is still in a coma according to the news. The doctors being interviewed have been kind but vague, their words doing little to soothe my gnawing guilt and fear.

If Marius dies, I’ll never forgive myself. The image of him lying motionless in the hospital bed haunts me every waking moment. I can’t bring myself to do anything, not even a mundane task properly. I must know he’ll be alright first before I can regain my focus.

Even so, Sammy needs me with his piling medical bills, and I’m running out of money. I need to go back to work as soon as possible.

I call Betty over the phone to rehire her as Sammy’s babysitter, but she refuses, citing her fear of being faced with Carter’s threat again.

With no other choice, I set out for the Unite Source Media Company with Sammy in my arms, praying that my bosses will understand my predicament.
