Chapter 9

I was sent to the hospital.

When I woke up again, I had tubes sticking out of all parts of my body.

The vile smell of medicine assaulted my nose.

My whole family was by my bed.

My mother was tearing up.

“Maria, are you feeling better?”

I watched these people and summoned the last bit of strength to push them away.

“Go… away!”

Cancer did bring me pain, but it was not even 1/1000 of the pain my family brought me.

I did not want to see them again.

Every single one of them made me feel disgusted.

Aaron knelt down beside my bed. Despite being a man, he was wailing.

He held my hand and begged for my forgiveness. “Maria, I’m sorry. I overlooked your feelings and made you go through so much. I’m really sorry. I just want you to get better.

“I’ll buy you whatever you want, okay?”

Despite an oxygen mask over my bloodless face, my expression was one of indifference.

People were like trees.

When a tree was empty inside, it could still stand tall, and everyone would still think that
