As I watched her clearly fake kindness, I felt disgusted, so I flung her hand off of me.

“I don’t need you pretending to be nice to me.”

Lydia staggered and nearly fell, but Aaron caught her.

Worried, he said, “You’re always so considerate of other people. Why are you so foolish?”

Jake went to Lydia’s side and stared at me in disgust.

“Did you see that, Lydia? She’s an ungrateful one! You’ve been worried about her for an entire night and asked us to come find her in the morning, but she’s trying to curse you so you’d die!”

Feeling resigned, I had to defend myself. “This urn isn’t for her.”

But Aaron just scoffed, as if he could already predict what I wanted to say next.

“Are you going to say that the urn is actually for you? Only Lydia would believe you. You bought an urn to make us pity you, right? Did you actually think we’d still believe in you?”

My face turned pale, and I gripped my urn so tightly that my knuckles turned white.
