250-His Heartbeat

Sawyer and I returned from the woods, and he left for his office. Even though we had sorted things out, I knew he was upset about what happened with his brother. He wanted to be alone, and I gave him that time. But when Ronan came home, I saw him from the window of my room, so I rushed to catch him in the hallway.

He seemed rather happy, much more than I had imagined. The last time he left the cabin, he had spoken harshly and shown deep emotions, but now he was casually chewing on a burger and smiling.

“Oh! How are you?” he smirked when he spotted me watching him with a frown on my forehead.

“What? Do you want one too?” he smiled widely, taking a big bite and even dropping some salad on the ground.

“How can you look so happy?” I was bewildered by the game he was playing.

“Because I spoke to my mate and, guess what? I cleared my name. Thanks to you, she won’t dare question me so easily,” he shrugged.

This was exactly why I said I couldn’t trust him. I knew he was playing me.
