Ronan didn’t stick around, and I couldn’t muster the courage to call him again. I had never felt so guilty in my life before.

I was upset with Carena, so when she called me, I couldn’t help but answer to question her motives.

“Are you okay?” she sounded genuinely concerned for me.

“I’m fine,” I said bluntly. “Ronan told me that you guys couldn’t find any cameras.” I didn’t want to be harsh with her. I desperately wanted her to be honest. I knew it was crazy that I wished for her to be truthful rather than my mate because she was the one I had known the longest. She was the one who saved me that night too. It would be soul-crushing if she didn’t want me to be her brother-in-law’s mate and wife.
