Chapter 11
“He's drunk again?” Marie asked as we both helped each other until we brought Elijah to his room. I didn't know that he was this heavy. Damn it. “The bar called me,” I replied. I had to breathe deeply as soon as we were able to throw him on the bed. “What do we do?” I glanced at her and she's worried again. Marie looks younger than me. I somehow wonder how she ended up working as a maid here. “You should go back to sleep. I'll take care of him,” I said when I noticed that she was already in her pajamas. “Are you sure, Ms. Faith?” I nodded as my response before she left us alone there. She was still kinda hesitant to leave me alone with Elijah who's drunk. I started to remove his shoes and socks and made sure that he would be comfortable on the bed. I never saw Elijah this miserable not until my sister passed away. I swear, Elijah was the most gentleman I've known in my entire life. However, that Elijah is gone now. It remains as a shadow of the past. I heaved another sigh as I took a step to leave. “Freya,” he called. My eyes landed on his hand that held mine when I was about to leave. “Don't leave me, Freya.” Hearing him calling my dead sister shatters me. It crumbles me so damn much. If there is someone who witnessed his love for Freya, it would be me. I was there. I witnessed how Elijah smiled at my sister differently from how he smiled towards us. I saw how different his glances were to my sister; it was filled with mirth and love that will not be wavered. “Please, c-come back, Freya.” Another tear escaped my eye. With the strength left in me for this day, I removed his hand on me, eyed him for a few seconds, before I marched out of the room. I headed straight to my room and faced the ceiling again. If the ceiling only lives as a human, it would probably be sick of watching me cry. The next morning, I woke up not feeling good. I coughed as soon as I sat on my bed while my entire body felt so heavy. I barely made it to dress up for work beyond what I feel. It seems like I'm gonna be sick. “Ms. Faith picked you up from the bar,” it was probably the wrong timing when I came straight to the dining hall. I just heard what Marie said as I found my husband having breakfast. I was the one who broke our gazes together. “Where are you going, Ms. Faith? You should eat first,” Marie uttered, which made me stop from leaving. I wanted to pinch her for being dense. I was trying to adjust and just avoid Elijah's presence and yet she did this. “I'm fine,” I replied shortly. I could feel Elijah's eyes watching me. “You don't look fine,” her brows crossed while examining me. “It's a headache,” I reasoned out. It was true though. My head is aching while my entire body is just being forced by me to move instead of resting. “You're too pale,” it made her even more anxious. I should have worn makeup today. “I'm always pale,” I replied. “I have to go.” I added and quickly turned my back from them. It's better to just avoid him while I try to bear with everything and survive this kind of life I have now. This time, I went to the shop of my own clothing brand as well instead of going to the company. “Lily,” I said when I saw her there, scrolling on her iPad. I wasn't expecting to see her after we had an argument last time. “You're here,” she put down her iPad and now glanced from behind. I looked where she was looking and I found Lucas from a bit far from us, checking the clothes I designed and displayed in my shop now. My brows arched after seeing him. “I thought he won't see me again,” I chuckled and shook my head. “He eats his words, you know him. Do you really think he can abandon you?” Lily shook her head, too. “Why are you here?” I now asked. “It's Lucas. His conscience is killing him,” she just rolled her eyes. “You're backstabbing me again,” Lucas said when he went towards us. “I'm telling the truth. You're the one who pulled me here,” knowing Lily, she doesn't give a fuck if she's being nosy. What she says is always true. “Well, you're still my friend.” Lucas said, still having a bit of his pride. Oh, this jerk. He just can't leave me alone. “How are you?” He now asked as he glanced at me. “I know that you love me,” I teased him instead of answering that. I would be fooling myself if I tell him that I'm fine again. “Tsk. I'll just wait until you forget that jerk. For now, you owe me a meal. Right, Lily?” I quickly chuckled to him. A meal would make it up all for him. “Why not?” “You know what, you're damn rich with all your films and yet you can't afford to buy yourself a meal.” His lips parted and eyed me unbelievably with Lily's attitude. “Is it your red days? She has been vexing to me,” I couldn't help but to shake my head because of the two of them. Even just for a while, I was able to forget everything. “Shut up,” Lily uttered. “Are you okay, Faith? You look pale,” Lucas noticed. “I always look pale,” I said and chuckled. “No, you don't really look well right now. Are you sick?” Now, his attention came back to me again. If I tell them that I feel sick, they will both lecture me endlessly. “I'm not, don't worry about me.” “Tsk. I wonder when was the last time you ate,” Lily muttered and shook her head once again. As much as I can remember, the last meal I had was yesterday afternoon. After that, I didn't eat anymore. “You can even smile?” We all stopped as we heard that voice. “Aunt,” Lucas called in his serious tone. My smile vanished when I saw my parents who were probably just passing by and saw us. “Mom, Dad.” I called as I stood up. “How dare you smile after what you did to your sister?” My mother asked. It's been a while since I last saw them and here they are, attacking me once again with the same thing that they have been accusing me of. “Mom, please don't make a scene here.” I mumbled and strolled my eyes to the customers. Her eyes remained as sharp as before. She still looks at me like I am a killer while my father couldn't even face me as if he despised me so much. “Why? You're ashamed of yourself? Well, you should be! You killed yo—” “With all due my respect, let's not do it here.” Lucas said and blocked me from them. I looked down, I can't eye them anymore. My hands are trembling already. “Why do you always protect her, huh? Freya was also your friend, Lucas!” “And she is also your daughter, Mam.” Lucas pinned it out once again. Tears are already playing in the corner of my eyes. I chose not to look at them anymore as I know that I will melt down at any moment. “She's not our daughter anymore,” my father said. This time, I looked at them. My father was now looking at me, wearing his blank eyes where I see no love for me. “We disowned her the moment we made her marry Elijah,” he added. Those words are like knives. It made my heart bleed in one snap. They didn't kill me, but I feel like they did. “Let's go, hon.” My father said and pulled my mother away from my shop. “Faith!” Lily exclaimed. I felt Lucas' hands catch me immediately when I almost lose my balance. I don't know if it's because I don't feel well or because hearing those words made me lose my allotted strength for today. “Are you okay?” Lucas quickly helped me to sit back. “Don't mind them, Faith.” Lily said and held my hand. “I-I’m fine,” I replied, lying to all of us. Lily and Lucas left when they assured me that I was already fine. But the truth is, I was just acting up, pretending to be fine in front of them. When it's already 8 pm, I decided to go home as well. I can't bear it anymore. I'm starting to get dizzy and I now feel really sick. I would probably pass out if I work more and force myself beyond my condition. “Ms. Faith, are you sure you're okay?” Marie asked as soon as I came back home. I glanced at the car parked there. I'm sure that it was not Elijah's car. “Did he do it again?” I asked with my weakest voice. I blinked twice, trying to clear my sight. My eyes are starting to get blurry. “He did,” she looked down, feeling bad for me again. I only nodded and went in, feigning ignorance to whatever I would witness inside. Elijah brought another woman again, but it doesn't surprise me anymore. “I'll see you next time,” I stopped for a moment as the woman who's wearing a very short dress that almost showed her entire body walked passed through me. She even smiled at me as if she was telling me that ‘you are just his wife’ and I should not care if my husband cheats on me. “Should I come with you until you reach your room? You really don't look fine,” Mariel said beside me. I shut my eyes firmly and even shook my head. “N-No, I'm fine.” Being so stubborn when I knew that I wasn't fine anymore, I was able to take a few steps, trying to stay conscious until I reached my room. Elijah was there, staring at me, but I was too unwell to even care. Our eyes crossed for a moment as I passed through him. “Ms. Faith!” I didn't make it to my room anymore. The last thing I knew, Elijah was carrying me in a hurry. Everything just went black. itsclarixassChapter 12Elijah’s POV“I’ll see you next time,” the woman kissed me and even lingered her seducing fingers on my neck as she turned her back, leaving me with her eyes glued to me like a leech.I don’t even remember her name. In fact, I don’t remember the names of the women I have sex with even though I brought them all to my place. “Should I come with you until you reach your room? You really don't look fine,” my eyes were stolen when Faith arrived with the maid that seems to be always around her a lot. I remained tough, cold, and heartless as I glanced at her. Her eyes weren’t at me. She was looking at the woman who was just about to leave. Wearing my keenest eyes, I made sure to watch her reaction after seeing another woman in our house. Sadness, pain, but unsurprised. Those are everything that invaded her eyes the moment she saw another woman.“N-No, I'm fine.” She simply shook her head as she closed her eyes deeply. My brows almost crossed as I watched her closely. She looks
Chapter 13“Do you like Faith? Are you fucking in love with my wife, Lucas?” That time, I didn't let him escape me. I cornered him with my sharp eyes at him, squeezing him until he admitted it by himself. “Shut up, Elijah. Do not change the subject! I came here for Fai—”“And why? Why did you come for her right away after you heard from that doctor about her condition?” When he wasn't able to answer me, I knew that he did. He likes Faith. He's in love with her and we were all too blind and naive not to notice it. “I don't care if you like her or not, Lucas. But just so you know, she is my wife now.” Our eyes remained together for a few seconds more before I distanced myself from him. “Take him out,” I said to the bodyguards and turned my back to him. I didn't look back and headed straight at Faith's room. She was still sleeping when I came back. I didn't know how long I would stay standing at the door while I couldn't take any step towards her with my conscience making me soft o
Chapter 14“Why are you acting like you care for me?”The deafening silence invaded the entire dining area. Elijah's eyes were pinned on me and that's the same for me. I was holding the spoon firmly in my grasp, squeezing it, while waiting for Elijah's reply. “Nevermind,” I said and was the one who broke our gazes together when he didn't answer. “Because you're sick,” that made me pause again, the moment he said that. I found his eyes still on me, having no emotions at all. “We're still married in papers, you are my responsibility. Do not expect anything,” perhaps that was the answer I needed the most. A clarification with his actions. I have no words to say. He looked away and continued eating while I was stuck there, looking at him. Once again, an excruciating pain attacked my chest. I didn't say anything anymore and tried all my best to swallow the food even though his words weakened me. The next day, we were back to how we normally started this marriage. Elijah isn't speaking
Chapter 15“Elijah, slow down.” I said when he was not walking with me anymore, he was dragging me, taking his huge steps. He was not facing me. I can only see his back, but I could feel and see how furious he is up until now. We left the party with the scene he created. I do appreciate how he shielded me, stood up for me from that unknown man when I was getting drunk already. “Elijah!” I exclaimed and pulled my hand out of his grasp when I almost trip on my heels. He's dragging me so swiftly that I could not take my steps slowly! “S-Stop,” I uttered, chasing my breath. “I will trip if you continue dragging me,” I bit my lower lip as I looked at my feet. It's already hurting because of these heels.“Get in,” it didn't just come out of his mouth, it was a command. Our car parked in front of us and I remained standing there. “Look, I know that you're mad, Elij—”“I said get in,” he said, firmer than earlier. It made me froze. “Elij—”“I SAID GET IN THE FUCKING CAR!” My lips part
Chapter 16“Are you sure you can go?” Marie asked when I was about to leave the house for another day. She still looks worried after witnessing what happened last night. “I'm fine,” I replied.“You always say that,” I heard her sobbed, which made me freeze from coming into the car. She looked away from me as if she was stopping her tears from dripping. “But we both know that you're not fine,” she added. I crumpled my hand and refrained myself from crying. Her words hit me so much. It penetrated my bones. “I'll mean it soon,” I said, without any assurance that I would. I left her with my forced little smile where there was not even a light of joy. I shut my eyes firmly as the car began to move. I haven't seen Elijah this morning. Marie told me that he left early, which is probably a good thing for me. I don't know how I am supposed to face him. I wasn't even able to have a good sleep right now. My head was flashing back how he slapped me that I didn't see coming. I know that he'
Chapter 17That day was indeed a mess. I didn't show up to Lucas and Brian after that. I have to take a break from all of them so I decided to work and lock myself in my office. I even turned off my phone and told my secretary to tell Lucas and Lily that I am away if they call. Good thing, Brian isn't calling or reaching me out. He's a client, I can't just ignore his calls. It has been three days since that day. Today is my birthday. “Do you think he will come home?” Marie asked while I was in the middle of my breakfast. Guess what? Elijah is not going home for three days. The last time I saw him was on his mother's birthday, where he slapped me so hard as if I was not a woman in his eyes. I do not have the slightest idea of where he is. I'm not expecting him to call me as well. I shrugged. “No idea,” I replied, having no energy early in the morning. “But I think this is a bit better,” Marie added. “I mean, when he's here, I am not at peace, thinking that he might hurt you again
Chapter 18On my birthday, Elijah took advantage of me and forced me to do it with him. Did I ask for too much? I only want to end my birthday with a rest from work. How can the heaven above couldn't even grant that simple wish for me? “Ms. Faith!” My heart almost jumped out of my chest when Marie shouted my name and even slammed her hands on the table. I was startled. She captured my attention right away. I was not into myself that I was already spacing out again. What Elijah did to me for the second time is running rent-free in my head. I couldn't forget it. His touch, the way he pinned me on the wall, the way he locked my hands firmly on his grasps, the way he grabbed my hair like I am a damn prostitute, and the way he enjoyed himself while I was begging him to stop. It was all stuck and glued in my head. “H-Huh? Why?” I asked immediately. I took a heavy breath as I shut my eyes firmly, trying to pull myself back to my senses. “Are you okay?” She asked worriedly again. I froze
Chapter 19Elijah’s POV “We're here, Sir.”I opened my eyes the moment my driver said that and I felt the car stopped. I stayed there for a few seconds, composing myself before I decided to get out of the car. I took all my steps, wearing my authority as I sat foot inside the restaurant. “Mr. Elijah? Sir Gabriel is there,” the waiter said when he saw me searching the jerk amidst the people who were having their different worlds. There he was in the corner, smoking. “Isn't it forbidden to smoke here?” I asked the waiter. But there's the bastard, acting like he owns the world and no one was around him. “We told him, but he didn't listen.” I witnessed how his face crumpled, showing me how problematic they are. I began to roam my eyes again and saw how he's being inconvenient to the other customers, especially those who are near the table. I didn't talk anymore as I marched towards him. “Make it quick, I'm busy.” I uttered when I sat immediately on the chair in front of him. He th
Chapter 68“You have to leave today and come back tomorrow?” Lily asked while I was packing all my things. My secretary called me and just told me that I have an important meeting with an important client. The place would be just next to the city where we are, but it would still be a long trip. “Yup. I gotta go, that's a huge client.” I replied. I think this is better than staying with her. “It's our last day here in the hotel. Would you just like to head straight to my condo tomorrow?” I paused from packing my things when she mentioned that. I almost forgot about that already. I agreed to live with her before finding out about Freya's death. Lily has been with me all my life and I would always want to be with her eternally. “I don't think I can live there,” I was able to capture her eyes when I said that. She looks surprised and a bit confused. Well, we already agreed to live together in her condo. However, the situation is different now. I am in an extreme peril and she is one
Chapter 67 “Then I wouldn't mind killing people,” his eyes were glued to me the moment he said that. We exchanged tough stares together, and he was reading me like a damn book. I didn't back down as I was trying to examine every reaction from him. He wouldn't mind killing people? I suddenly remember how I found out that he has feelings for me. It was the day Elijah and Lucas fought that they almost killed each other. He had feelings for me and Lucas knew all my life that my parents didn't treat me right as they always had their eyes on Freya. “Really?” I asked, trying to catch him. The side of his lips moved and nodded. “Yeah, of course. I mean, that's how I love. I don't want my woman getting hurt,” Tension—that was what filled the entire room. It felt like there were only the two of us and Lily and Brian were not there at all. He remained looking at me and I didn't back down. But inside me, I was terrified. Not with the fact that he might hurt me, but the fact that if he's rea
Chapter 66“It's really them,” Elijah uttered while reviewing the documents that the detective brought. I was in awe, or perhaps in despair. My eyes were stuck in nowhere. I couldn't say a single word after he told us the new suspects. Lily and Lucas. They were both close in my heart. I have been with them my entire life and they have witnessed everything that I have been through. It's not just that, Freya is also their friend. We are all damn friends and yet one of them might be the culprit. “Now we have three suspects: your mother, Lily and Lucas.” The detective said while my entire world is already colliding. I wanted to prepare myself, but I couldn't. No matter who it is, it would surely shatter me to the point that I might not know how to stand up again. All my life, I thought we were not just friends but a family that I never had. “Only one of them is the suspect,” Elijah uttered, trying to crack the puzzle. “As of now, all I can do is to watch them closely. You should do t
Chapter 65I closed my eyes, trying to feel the same feeling I've felt towards Elijah. My lips were on his lips, and my hand even traveled on his neck. I moved my lips, still eager to make myself feel those strange feelings I used to have. But then, no matter how I tried, I felt nothing. It was not the same when I remember myself kissing Elijah. It was totally different. It was always strange, but I loved it. The soft kiss that would make my eyes close without me noticing. The silence, as if no one was around us. Our breaths hit each other's face. Our eyes together were filled with delight and unbeatable romance. His hands on my waist felt warm. It has always been like that. A very short kiss that feels like the longest one. I didn't feel any of that when I kissed Brian. We eyed each other and his eyes were satiated with delight, love and sincerity. I wore the same eyes before. But right now, my blank eyes remain—or perhaps, disappointed. I crumpled my hands as I faced Elijah who
Chapter 64“I still fucking love you, Faith.” I felt betrayed. The worst is, I was fighting with myself. The moment Elijah said that, my heart began to race, which I didn't feel a long time ago. As far as I remember, the last time I felt the same was also because of him. I hate myself for feeling this strange feeling again. I could not move in my position as if my feet were glued on the floor. Our eyes were both stuck towards each other. His eyes were filled with sincerity. They were soft as before, which reminds me of how I was captivated by those eyes before—when everything was still fine, when our souls were not ripped yet. He was begging with those eyes. They were speaking to me, trying to make me believe how pure she is. “Trust me, I regret everything. Every day that you were away in four years, I couldn't stop thinking of you that I felt like going mad,” it was the first time that I listened. I have heard all those reasons from him ever since I arrived here. But right that m
Chapter 63“Where have you been last night? Sorry, I slept early. I didn't see you coming home,” Lily said while I was the one cooking our breakfast. I only stared at her for a moment. Just like what the detective said, I should not trust anyone until the culprit is caught. As of now, my mother is the biggest suspect that we have. But knowing that the culprit is around me, I felt like I cannot trust any of them. Who knows? The person behind this might be just playing under my nose for a long time. “Work? I work overtime,” I avoided her eyes and acted normal right in front of her. If it is not my mother, would it be Lily? Would she plan something cruel like that? I don't know. She has been my one and only best friend in my entire life. If it is her, I don't know what I can do, but I am sure that it would break me into a million pieces. Inside me, I was hoping that she is not the culprit. I hope she's innocent. “What else do you want? I really don't understand why you want triple sa
Chapter 62I was in awe. The image of my mother wearing that earring before was flashing back in my head. How can I forget her favorite earring to wear in every grand event that she attended in the past? My entire world was crumbling again and I couldn't pull myself back together. My palm was already filled with bruises because of my nails that bury everytime I clench my hands, just like right now. I was shivering right there and it felt like I'm going mad. “What do you want me to do?” The detective asked in front of me. I couldn't even touch the food that I bought. He was only eating in front of me comfortably, waiting for whatever I wanted to do. “The case is not closed right?” “Yeah. I can open it again and continue what I started if you want me to do that,” he shrugged; he's now giving me the authority to decide whether to continue the digging or not. “Do it, investigate the case. This time, I want it done.” A smirk played beside his lips. “I've been wanting to dig this up, y
Chapter 61“We can move next week to my condo,” Lily mentioned while we are on our way to our businesses. I was the one driving with my head flying elsewhere. I just have to drop her off at the mall before I go to my company. “Okay,” I shortly replied, having no energy in my voice. The weather was gloomy, it makes me feel lazy to move and work today. “Are you sure you don't want to come with me and go shopping? You need this. Take time to unwind,” she has been asking me to come since last night. This is our usual way of decreasing stress, by spending our wealth in luxury things that we love. “How can I go there? I can't even visit my shop in the mall because of the issue,” I can't blame anyone. I was the one behind that exposure of the truth from our past. In my state right now, shopping wouldn't fix everything. “Well, you have a point,” she nodded and shook her head at the same time. I stopped the car in front of the mall for her. She could have used her car but she's being lazy
Chapter 60“My name is Melinda Ching, I don't even know if Elijah Luciero remembers my name,” she chuckled and smirked thinly. “Yeah, I was one of Elijah Luciero's women before. We used to fuck each other anywhere, until he one day brought me to his home and I found out that he's actually married to Faith Flamera, the famous fashion designer,” I crumpled both of my hands while the woman was now revealing everything to the people. I do not remember her anymore. How can I? Elijah brought ton of women in our house and they were fucking each other each night. “I asked my friends, and it turned out that some of them were one of her chicks as well. They told me that Elijah brought them home, too, and they met his wife. He was a cheater—yeah, you heard it right. I think it's the reason why his wife divorced her. Before, I was asking myself, ‘why the hell is she not dumping him when he's cheating right in front of her?’ She was the most martyr woman that I ever met in my life,” I was shiv
