Chapter 13

“Do you like Faith? Are you fucking in love with my wife, Lucas?”

That time, I didn't let him escape me. I cornered him with my sharp eyes at him, squeezing him until he admitted it by himself.

“Shut up, Elijah. Do not change the subject! I came here for Fai—”

“And why? Why did you come for her right away after you heard from that doctor about her condition?”

When he wasn't able to answer me, I knew that he did. He likes Faith. He's in love with her and we were all too blind and naive not to notice it.

“I don't care if you like her or not, Lucas. But just so you know, she is my wife now.” Our eyes remained together for a few seconds more before I distanced myself from him.

“Take him out,” I said to the bodyguards and turned my back to him. I didn't look back and headed straight at Faith's room.

She was still sleeping when I came back. I didn't know how long I would stay standing at the door while I couldn't take any step towards her with my conscience making me soft once again. From there, I could see how tired she was.

I married a famous designer. Ever since, her art and designs amazes me all the time. I knew before that she would not even struggle to be successful on her own with her perseverance and talent that she possessed. I wasn't wrong after all. She made it. But then, she changed a lot. She looks thinner than before.

I had to muster my courage before I went beside her and sat on the bed. I took that chance to stare at her face closely.

“F-Freya,”

I remained silent when she suddenly called her sister's name. Her brows crossed and she was shaking her head a bit as if she was having a bad dream.

“N-No, Freya. D-Don’t drive…you don't know how to drive. Mom and Dad will g-get mad,” I quickly stood up and clenched my jaw.

Is she having it, too? The trauma? Is she being haunted by Freya's death, too?

“P-Please, Freya…listen to me. Freya,”

I can't stand it. I can't bear it. I quickly stepped out of her room, leaving her there alone.

Faith's POV

The first thing I saw when I woke up was the ceiling. I closed my eyes again when I still felt sick. My head was still aching along with my bones. Am I getting old? Damn it.

When my hand traveled on my face, I found a towel on my forehead. That was when I saw the bowl of water on the side table of my bed along with the medicine.

“What happened?” I mumbled, trying to recall how I ended right here.

When I heard the reek of the door, I knew that it was probably Marie.

“Marie, how did I end her—” I froze when I shifted my eyes there and didn't find Marie.

Everything just stopped for a few seconds. My lips parted and I was left looking at him, holding a tray of food while eyeing me.

“E-Elijah,” I stuttered, too stunned to see him here instead of Marie.

He didn't say a word and I only watched him bring the food on the side table. He ever cleared it out before he came back looking at me. What's happening? Why is he here?

Before I could even ask that, I suddenly remembered everything. Oh, hell, yeah. I passed out before I could even reach my damn room.

“I brought you here when you passed out downstairs. I didn't know that you were sick,” he said coldly. That's the only thing that doesn't surprise me.

“Marie cooked this. You should eat,” he added.

I kept my eyes on him. He's looking at me like nothing happened between us. As if he didn't bring a lot of women in this house and make me hear them having sex every night.

“What? Do you want me to feed you?”

I immediately moved my eyes away and started to eat. It was uncomfortable as he was watching me.

“I would appreciate it if you would not watch me eat,” I said.

“You're too thin,” I heard him mumble.

“I heard that,” I uttered. He didn't care. He only looked away from me just like what I wished him to do.

I shook my head and forced myself to eat. I don't remember when was the last time I ate.

“You're already done?” He asked with his brows arched while staring at the food left on the tray.

“Yeah,” I replied.

“You almost didn't touch it,” he said as if he couldn't believe that it's all that I could eat.

“I have no appetite,” I said.

“Seriously? That's why you get sick. You don't eat a lot. You have to finish all of this before taking the meds,” I paused and looked at him again.

Hold on, is he nagging me? He's acting really weird right now. This isn't him again. Until I realized that this is the longest conversation we have after our wedding. It's also the calmest conversation we have.

“I'm fine,” I said and started to take the meds before he could even complain again.

I heard him sigh as if he accepted his defeat over me—for the first time.

“You still need to rest, I'll leave you alone.” He uttered as he left my room. I watched him leave, speechless.

Just like what Elijah said, I took more sleep as I needed to. I still don't feel well. I know that I am still sick.

When I woke up and checked the time, it was already afternoon. I don't want to stay there all day lying down on the bed. I need to move to get better gradually, so I went out of my room.

“Ms. Faith! Why are you up? You should rest more,” I chuckled when Marie was the first one to say that when I went downstairs.

“Chill. I feel better now, don't worry.” I gave her a short smile to lessen her worries towards me.

“Sir Elijah was so worried last night. Do you know how many times he cursed me because I was panicking so much and my brain isn't functioning?” She chuckled and shook her head. “He was walking repeatedly while Betty was treating you last night.”

“He did those?”

Is she serious? Did he really become nervous last night because of me?

“Yeah. I saw it with my own eyes!” She exclaimed and giggled.

“Faith,”

We both stopped as we heard that baritone voice. There was Elijah, standing there with his hands hiding inside his short's pockets.

“The lunch is ready. If you feel better, you should…” he paused, looking hesitant to continue his words. I saw how he had a hard time all of a sudden.

“You should join me,” he added before he turned his back immediately.

“See?” Marie giggled again and I found myself wearing a very little smile protruded on my lips.

“Stop it,” I told her before I headed to the dining hall as Elijah said.

I saw him putting food on my plate already, which he never does before.

“Sit here,” he said and pulled the chair for me. I remained standing there like a damn statue who was trying to process what I was witnessing. Perhaps, he's the one who's sick, not me.

“T-Thanks,” I said.

Then, he sat right in front of me. Closer than before.

“You should finish that this time. You have to eat a lot,” he said before he began to eat as well.

Am I dreaming? Is this really happening? Pinch me if this isn't true.

“What happened to that?” I should have not asked that, but it slipped out of my tongue when I noticed the bruise on the side of his lips.

He stopped for a moment as well and realized that I was pertaining to that.

“Why don't you ask Lucas?”

That made me stop there. My brows crossed while looking at him. Why is his name being brought up here?

“What do you mean?” I asked immediately.

“He came here last night when he found out that you were sick. This is what I get,” he shrugged and continued eating.

“He won't do it without a reason, Elijah.”

Maybe I was being too comfortable when I said that. I saw how he froze and how that little smirk became evil.

“Are you telling me that I was the one who started the fight?” I couldn't answer. I was lost for words as if there was a lump stuck in my throat.

I was holding the spoon firmly. I didn't want to ask this, but I am not used to it.

“Why are you acting like this, Elijah?”

Our eyes were now locked at each other. It captured his attention even more.

“Why are you acting like you care for me?”

I was holding the spoon firmly in my grasp, squeezing it, while waiting for Elijah's reply. “Nevermind,” I said and was the one who broke our gazes together when he didn't answer. “Because you're sick,” that made me pause again, the moment he said that. I found his eyes still on me, having no emotions at all. “We're still married in papers, you are my responsibility. Do not expect anything,” perhaps that was the answer I needed the most. A clarification with his actions. I have no words to say. He looked away and continued eating while I was stuck there, looking at him. Once again, an excruciating pain attacked my chest. I didn't say anything anymore and tried all my best to swallow the food even though his words weakened me. The next day, we were back to how we normally started this marriage. Elijah isn't speaking

I can only see his back, but I could feel and see how furious he is up until now. We left the party with the scene he created. I do appreciate how he shielded me, stood up for me from that unknown man when I was getting drunk already. “Elijah!” I exclaimed and pulled my hand out of his grasp when I almost trip on my heels. He's dragging me so swiftly that I could not take my steps slowly! “S-Stop,” I uttered, chasing my breath. “I will trip if you continue dragging me,” I bit my lower lip as I looked at my feet. It's already hurting because of these heels.“Get in,” it didn't just come out of his mouth, it was a command. She still looks worried after witnessing what happened last night. “I'm fine,” I replied.“You always say that,” I heard her sobbed, which made me freeze from coming into the car. She looked away from me as if she was stopping her tears from dripping. “But we both know that you're not fine,” she added. I crumpled my hand and refrained myself from crying. Her words hit me so much. It penetrated my bones. “I'll mean it soon,” I said, without any assurance that I would. I left her with my forced little smile where there was not even a light of joy. I shut my eyes firmly as the car began to move. I haven't seen Elijah this morning. Marie told me that he left early, which is probably a good thing for me. I don't know how I am supposed to face him. I wasn't even able to have a good sleep right now. My head was flashing back how he slapped me that I didn't see coming. I know that he'

I even turned off my phone and told my secretary to tell Lucas and Lily that I am away if they call. Good thing, Brian isn't calling or reaching me out. He's a client, I can't just ignore his calls. It has been three days since that day. Today is my birthday. “Do you think he will come home?” Marie asked while I was in the middle of my breakfast. Guess what? Elijah is not going home for three days. The last time I saw him was on his mother's birthday, where he slapped me so hard as if I was not a woman in his eyes. I do not have the slightest idea of where he is. I'm not expecting him to call me as well. I shrugged. “No idea,” I replied, having no energy early in the morning. “But I think this is a bit better,” Marie added. “I mean, when he's here, I am not at peace, thinking that he might hurt you again

How can the heaven above couldn't even grant that simple wish for me? “Ms. Faith!” My heart almost jumped out of my chest when Marie shouted my name and even slammed her hands on the table. I was startled. She captured my attention right away. I was not into myself that I was already spacing out again. What Elijah did to me for the second time is running rent-free in my head. I couldn't forget it. His touch, the way he pinned me on the wall, the way he locked my hands firmly on his grasps, the way he grabbed my hair like I am a damn prostitute, and the way he enjoyed himself while I was begging him to stop. It was all stuck and glued in my head. “H-Huh? Why?” I asked immediately. I took a heavy breath as I shut my eyes firmly, trying to pull myself back to my senses. “Are you okay?” She asked worriedly again. I froze

I stayed there for a few seconds, composing myself before I decided to get out of the car. I took all my steps, wearing my authority as I sat foot inside the restaurant. “Mr. Elijah? Sir Gabriel is there,” the waiter said when he saw me searching the jerk amidst the people who were having their different worlds. There he was in the corner, smoking. “Isn't it forbidden to smoke here?” I asked the waiter. But there's the bastard, acting like he owns the world and no one was around him. “We told him, but he didn't listen.” I witnessed how his face crumpled, showing me how problematic they are. I began to roam my eyes again and saw how he's being inconvenient to the other customers, especially those who are near the table. I didn't talk anymore as I marched towards him. “Make it quick, I'm busy.” I uttered when I sat immediately on the chair in front of him. He th

He was taking his huge steps earlier that I had to chase him down. “Stop trying to cover him up, Faith. I'm so done with this,” his baritone voice was firm and sharp that goes along with his eyes right now. My heart was pounding so swiftly while I was doing everything I could to stop him. “You have to calm down, Lucas. It's still Elijah. He was still a friend to us,” “A friend?” Lucas laughed so loud, as if what Lily said was the funniest joke he has ever heard. “Do you hear yourself, Lily?!” He paused to take a heavy breath. I know that Lucas was holding himself back in front of us. The blazing anger from his eyes couldn't be hidden anymore. However, I also see agony along with that madness he currently feels. We both watched him leave with his car while the three of us remained under the rain until Elijah left and went back inside the house. “Let's give up here, Faith.” Lily said, which captured my attention. Beyond the rain, I realized that it cannot hide the tears of people even under the rain. Right there, while I was glancing at Lily, her tears were visible enough for me to see. Her eyes still speak of her agony and the undefeatable melancholy. “W-What?” A tiny smile flashed beside her lips. I heard her sob, until she held my hand together. “It’s over, Faith. There's no hope that we can all go back together as if nothing happened. Besides, you're already with Elijah and Freya is dead. Everything changed and we have to accept that, Faith.” Her voice shattered. We were both crying under the rain. Isn't it funny? She told me to accept it, but in front of me, she couldn't accept it herself, too. “We're all wrecked because of each other. May

It was the day Elijah and Lucas fought that they almost killed each other. He had feelings for me and Lucas knew all my life that my parents didn't treat me right as they always had their eyes on Freya. “Really?” I asked, trying to catch him. The side of his lips moved and nodded. “Yeah, of course. I mean, that's how I love. I don't want my woman getting hurt,” Tension—that was what filled the entire room. Not with the fact that he might hurt me, but the fact that if he's rea

I have been with them my entire life and they have witnessed everything that I have been through. It's not just that, Freya is also their friend. We are all damn friends and yet one of them might be the culprit. “Now we have three suspects: your mother, Lily and Lucas.” The detective said while my entire world is already colliding. I moved my lips, still eager to make myself feel those strange feelings I used to have. But then, no matter how I tried, I felt nothing. It was not the same when I remember myself kissing Elijah. It was totally different. It was always strange, but I loved it. The soft kiss that would make my eyes close without me noticing. The silence, as if no one was around us. Our breaths hit each other's face. Our eyes together were filled with delight and unbeatable romance. His hands on my waist felt warm. It has always been like that. A very short kiss that feels like the longest one. I didn't feel any of that when I kissed Brian. We eyed each other and his eyes were satiated with delight, love and sincerity. I wore the same eyes before. But right now, my blank eyes remain—or perhaps, disappointed. I crumpled my hands as I faced Elijah who

As far as I remember, the last time I felt the same was also because of him. I hate myself for feeling this strange feeling again. I could not move in my position as if my feet were glued on the floor. Our eyes were both stuck towards each other. His eyes were filled with sincerity. They were soft as before, which reminds me of how I was captivated by those eyes before—when everything was still fine, when our souls were not ripped yet. He was begging with those eyes. They were speaking to me, trying to make me believe how pure she is. “Trust me, I regret everything.
