Chapter 16
“Are you sure you can go?” Marie asked when I was about to leave the house for another day. She still looks worried after witnessing what happened last night. “I'm fine,” I replied. “You always say that,” I heard her sobbed, which made me freeze from coming into the car. She looked away from me as if she was stopping her tears from dripping. “But we both know that you're not fine,” she added. I crumpled my hand and refrained myself from crying. Her words hit me so much. It penetrated my bones. “I'll mean it soon,” I said, without any assurance that I would. I left her with my forced little smile where there was not even a light of joy. I shut my eyes firmly as the car began to move. I haven't seen Elijah this morning. Marie told me that he left early, which is probably a good thing for me. I don't know how I am supposed to face him. I wasn't even able to have a good sleep right now. My head was flashing back how he slapped me that I didn't see coming. I know that he's damn mad, he despised me and he blamed me for Freya's death. But I never once thought that he would lay a hand on me. “Can we stop by at my parents’ house?” I told my driver before we headed to my shop. I saw him checking me in the rear mirror before he just nodded at me. I just feel so weak and my entire body is seeking strength. It's me who chose all of this. I shall bear with it and try to survive until I die. “Should we go inside?” He asked, while my eyes were already pinned outside the house. I could see my room from the third floor of our mansion. Beside mine was Freya's room. “No,” I replied. I went there not to meet them personally. It's not because I don't want to, it's because I know that they wouldn't like to see me. I stayed inside the car, watching my room and Freya’s room from there. A few seconds later, it happened that I saw my mother, coming out of Freya's room. She stood up in the veranda of her room, roaming her eyes around. I could see how the wind played with her hair. The next seconds, I found my father who stood up beside Mom. Even if they were this far, I see the heaviness of agony from both of their eyes. I covered my mouth with my hands as I lost control of my tears once again. I just broke in. I burst into tears while watching the two of them there. The heaven knows how much I wanted to touch them, to hug them as if there was no tomorrow anymore and fill them with kisses. “M-Mom, D-Dad,” I muttered. “I'm not fine…I'm suffering each day,” my voice broke along with my entire self melting down with all the pain that has been weighing me. Do they care though? Of course, they don't. They mourn and feel pain not because of me, but only because of Freya. Until now, I don't understand why they have to blame it on me. I didn't even do something wrong for them to disown me. I kept shedding my tears while watching them from afar. What have I done so wrong to be treated like this? I stayed there for a while until they both left Freya's room up there. I had to compose myself and find a way to breathe again even though I do not feel breathing. My phone rang when I was in the middle of pulling myself back together. I took a deep breath before I answered Brian's call. “Hello, Brian?” “Hey, Faith! How are you?” He asked, being polite again. “Fine. By the way, I have the design of your attire. Where can I meet you? Will you be able to stop by?” Isn't it funny? I just told him that I'm fine when I just cried. “Oh, unfortunately I am not available. I'm actually on the set. I'm shooting a commercial today. But…maybe you can go here if you're not busy?” My brows arched as I began to think of that. “Well, I can make time. Where are you?” “I'll send you the address,” he said. “Sure. I'm on my way,” “Alright, then. I'll wait for you. See you!” I hung up as soon as he said that. Right after the call, my phone beeped and he sent the address right away. “Let's go here,” I told the driver and showed him Brian's message. “Copy, Ms. Faith.” He said as he began to drive. Their location is not a bit far from us. They are in the restaurant, where they are doing the shoot for the commercial that Brian mentioned over the phone. “Wait me here,” I said as I came out of the car. There are a lot of people, probably the team. There are cameras around and lots of things that are probably used for the shooting. I began to roam my eyes around, looking for Brian. “Faith?” Instead of looking for him, it was the man I wouldn't want to see right now that I met. Lucas. “L-Lucas,” I stuttered. My eyes widened a bit. Shit. I just realized that he is the fucking director of this commercial. Of all people, why does it have to be him? “What happened to that?” He asked immediately. In one glance, he noticed my bruise, goddamnit. “H-Have you seen, Brian? I'm here to meet him up for h— I wasn't able to finish my words when I was trying to change the subject. He just placed his hand on my cheek and examined my entire face keenly. “What happened to this?” Now, his eyes went straight to me. I was lost for words. “Did he do this?” He asked firmly. I couldn't answer. His eyes were already sharp and dark. I knew him for a long time. This is the look that I fear a lot. “No, of course not. It's an accident, I tripped—” He chuckled sarcastically. He even shook his head. “You tripped and your cheek suddenly became like that? You suddenly have that bruise on your lips? And this?” He grabbed my arm, which I quickly pulled away when he saw the bruise there. “This is nothing. It's really just an acci—” “Stop fooling me, Faith! I am not fucking dumb!” He exclaimed. I looked around and saw that some of them were now looking at us. He turned his back and washed his hands on his face. I couldn't defend Elijah there. I was fucking trembling. “What are you doing, Faith? He's doing violence towards you!” He was filled with anger and I can see that from his face. He wants to kill, definitely, Elijah. “Lucas, calm down. We're in the public,” I said, trying to calm him down. “How can I calm down? You're hurt! You showed up to me looking like that! With tons of fucking bruises!” “Director, what's going on?” I shut my eyes when Brian now came into the scene. He was still dressed. Probably, because of the commercial. Why does he always have to witness these kinds of things? “What happened to you?” This time, I never saw Brian's usual smile. He looked dead serious as he went towards me, closer. “This is nothing. Can we not talk about it? I'm only here to meet Brian, Lucas. Let's talk another time,” perhaps, coming here isn't a good idea at all. “Talk another time? Why? Are you going to admit that Elijah did that?!” “He did that?” Brian asked. He eyed me unbelievably. “This is too much, Faith.” He added. He began to massage his forehead as if he couldn't stand looking at me. “Are we going to talk, Brian? Because if not, maybe we can just meet next time when you're not busy.” “You're not answering the question, Faith! Did he fucking do th—” “Yes, he did!” I exclaimed. I don't care if we are already creating a huge scene there. I am not fucking fine and they are both pushing me on the bridge so much. I felt my tears welling out around the corners of my eyes again as I admitted that in front of them. I know that I wouldn't be able to conceal this and deny that this isn't Elijah's doings. “Happy now?” I chuckled, not into myself anymore. “Are you going to tell me again to leave him? That I am being blind and stupid? Do you think it doesn't hurt me?” I lost it all. It's such a shame to burst into tears in front of my sister's idol, Brian. “I never once thought that Elijah could lay his hand to me, but he did.” My voice cracked again. Where would I even stop from crying? My eyes are too tired from crying each day. “Then, leave. Leave that fucking bastard,” Lucas said with his baritone voice. “I knew that he wasn't a good husband when I first met him,” Brian commented, couldn't even give me an eye. I shook my head in front of them as I wiped all my tears. “I won't,” I uttered firmly beyond my situation. “Let's meet next time, Brian.” I added before I turned my back to them and left. itsclarixassChapter 17That day was indeed a mess. I didn't show up to Lucas and Brian after that. I have to take a break from all of them so I decided to work and lock myself in my office. I even turned off my phone and told my secretary to tell Lucas and Lily that I am away if they call. Good thing, Brian isn't calling or reaching me out. He's a client, I can't just ignore his calls. It has been three days since that day. Today is my birthday. “Do you think he will come home?” Marie asked while I was in the middle of my breakfast. Guess what? Elijah is not going home for three days. The last time I saw him was on his mother's birthday, where he slapped me so hard as if I was not a woman in his eyes. I do not have the slightest idea of where he is. I'm not expecting him to call me as well. I shrugged. “No idea,” I replied, having no energy early in the morning. “But I think this is a bit better,” Marie added. “I mean, when he's here, I am not at peace, thinking that he might hurt you again
Chapter 18On my birthday, Elijah took advantage of me and forced me to do it with him. Did I ask for too much? I only want to end my birthday with a rest from work. How can the heaven above couldn't even grant that simple wish for me? “Ms. Faith!” My heart almost jumped out of my chest when Marie shouted my name and even slammed her hands on the table. I was startled. She captured my attention right away. I was not into myself that I was already spacing out again. What Elijah did to me for the second time is running rent-free in my head. I couldn't forget it. His touch, the way he pinned me on the wall, the way he locked my hands firmly on his grasps, the way he grabbed my hair like I am a damn prostitute, and the way he enjoyed himself while I was begging him to stop. It was all stuck and glued in my head. “H-Huh? Why?” I asked immediately. I took a heavy breath as I shut my eyes firmly, trying to pull myself back to my senses. “Are you okay?” She asked worriedly again. I froze
Chapter 19Elijah’s POV “We're here, Sir.”I opened my eyes the moment my driver said that and I felt the car stopped. I stayed there for a few seconds, composing myself before I decided to get out of the car. I took all my steps, wearing my authority as I sat foot inside the restaurant. “Mr. Elijah? Sir Gabriel is there,” the waiter said when he saw me searching the jerk amidst the people who were having their different worlds. There he was in the corner, smoking. “Isn't it forbidden to smoke here?” I asked the waiter. But there's the bastard, acting like he owns the world and no one was around him. “We told him, but he didn't listen.” I witnessed how his face crumpled, showing me how problematic they are. I began to roam my eyes again and saw how he's being inconvenient to the other customers, especially those who are near the table. I didn't talk anymore as I marched towards him. “Make it quick, I'm busy.” I uttered when I sat immediately on the chair in front of him. He th
Chapter 20“Lucas, can you please just listen to me first?!” I began to chase my breathing as I blocked Lucas. We are already outside the building of my company. He was taking his huge steps earlier that I had to chase him down. “Stop trying to cover him up, Faith. I'm so done with this,” his baritone voice was firm and sharp that goes along with his eyes right now. My heart was pounding so swiftly while I was doing everything I could to stop him. “You have to calm down, Lucas. It's still Elijah. He was still a friend to us,” “A friend?” Lucas laughed so loud, as if what Lily said was the funniest joke he has ever heard. “Do you hear yourself, Lily?!” He paused to take a heavy breath. I know that Lucas was holding himself back in front of us. The blazing anger from his eyes couldn't be hidden anymore. However, I also see agony along with that madness he currently feels. He's mad because a friend that we had who became my husband is laying his hands on me and Lucas couldn't do a
Chapter 21“Lucas,” Lily tried to call him. We both watched him leave with his car while the three of us remained under the rain until Elijah left and went back inside the house. “Let's give up here, Faith.” Lily said, which captured my attention. Beyond the rain, I realized that it cannot hide the tears of people even under the rain. Right there, while I was glancing at Lily, her tears were visible enough for me to see. Her eyes still speak of her agony and the undefeatable melancholy. “W-What?” A tiny smile flashed beside her lips. I heard her sob, until she held my hand together. “It’s over, Faith. There's no hope that we can all go back together as if nothing happened. Besides, you're already with Elijah and Freya is dead. Everything changed and we have to accept that, Faith.” Her voice shattered. We were both crying under the rain. Isn't it funny? She told me to accept it, but in front of me, she couldn't accept it herself, too. “We're all wrecked because of each other. May
Chapter 22“When are you coming back?” Marie asked after they brought my things and my luggage in the living room. My flight is in the afternoon, 12 pm. It's still a bit early, but I have to go to the airport now because it's a bit far from here. “It's for a week. The event is on Friday. We're gonna use Monday to Thursday to explore there and prepare, of course.” I explained while I was already updating my employees that I am on my way there. They were all updating as well on our group chats. “Ms. Faith, should we bring your things in the car now?” The driver asked. “Yeah, sure. Thanks,” my phone rang as soon as they started getting all my things. It was Brian, who's calling. “Hello, Brian? Are you on your way to the airport?” I asked immediately. He's one of the important models we do have. He would definitely pull a lot of sales to my summer collection. “Sir Elijah, the food is ready. Ms. Faith wouldn't be able to join you because she's already leaving for her flight,” my eyes
Chapter 23“Are you sure you're leaving today? You might cancel your flight again,” Marie said while helping me to bring all my things downstairs. Our driver helped us from the stairs as well. “I can't cancel my flight anymore, Marie. I have to watch the practice on the runway before the actual event,” I mentioned as I sighed heavily. “Don't worry. If Sir Elijah is still sick, we'll be the one to take care of him.” Marie assured without having any idea about what's going on.“No need for that,” both of us looked behind and saw Elijah with some of our guards carrying his things out. I found myself wearing a smile once again after seeing him wearing the same smile I used to love even before. “Are you leaving, too? Do you have a business trip?” Marie asked with confusion. I looked down for a moment to hold myself back from laughing at Marie's reaction. “I'm coming with her,” Elijah replied, which made her jaw drop to the floor. “Are you really going there with him?” She whispered
Chapter 24“The Luciero firm? He owns it, right?” “Ssshhh. Yeah, he's damn famous and a billionaire.”“So? Ms. Faith is also a billionaire,”“But I heard he was Ms. Freya’s ex lover, Ms. Faith’s dead sister.“Really? How did they get married, then? Are you telling me that she stole her sister's lover?” “I didn't,” I uttered. Their eyes widened immediately when I joined them at the buffet to get my own food. I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw how they all froze as if they already foresee losing their job just because I caught them sticking their noses in my life. “M-Ms. Faith,” she gulped. I don't know her name, but she's probably in the finance team. “Let's just say that it was an arranged marriage,” I mentioned. I heard one of them gasps, as if he wasn't expecting that but at least, they have got their answer. “Aren't you comfortable with him? He asked me to tag along,” I acted normal so they would not feel anxious with what happened. “N-No, of course not.” I kept my tiny
Chapter 68“You have to leave today and come back tomorrow?” Lily asked while I was packing all my things. My secretary called me and just told me that I have an important meeting with an important client. The place would be just next to the city where we are, but it would still be a long trip. “Yup. I gotta go, that's a huge client.” I replied. I think this is better than staying with her. “It's our last day here in the hotel. Would you just like to head straight to my condo tomorrow?” I paused from packing my things when she mentioned that. I almost forgot about that already. I agreed to live with her before finding out about Freya's death. Lily has been with me all my life and I would always want to be with her eternally. “I don't think I can live there,” I was able to capture her eyes when I said that. She looks surprised and a bit confused. Well, we already agreed to live together in her condo. However, the situation is different now. I am in an extreme peril and she is one
Chapter 67 “Then I wouldn't mind killing people,” his eyes were glued to me the moment he said that. We exchanged tough stares together, and he was reading me like a damn book. I didn't back down as I was trying to examine every reaction from him. He wouldn't mind killing people? I suddenly remember how I found out that he has feelings for me. It was the day Elijah and Lucas fought that they almost killed each other. He had feelings for me and Lucas knew all my life that my parents didn't treat me right as they always had their eyes on Freya. “Really?” I asked, trying to catch him. The side of his lips moved and nodded. “Yeah, of course. I mean, that's how I love. I don't want my woman getting hurt,” Tension—that was what filled the entire room. It felt like there were only the two of us and Lily and Brian were not there at all. He remained looking at me and I didn't back down. But inside me, I was terrified. Not with the fact that he might hurt me, but the fact that if he's rea
Chapter 66“It's really them,” Elijah uttered while reviewing the documents that the detective brought. I was in awe, or perhaps in despair. My eyes were stuck in nowhere. I couldn't say a single word after he told us the new suspects. Lily and Lucas. They were both close in my heart. I have been with them my entire life and they have witnessed everything that I have been through. It's not just that, Freya is also their friend. We are all damn friends and yet one of them might be the culprit. “Now we have three suspects: your mother, Lily and Lucas.” The detective said while my entire world is already colliding. I wanted to prepare myself, but I couldn't. No matter who it is, it would surely shatter me to the point that I might not know how to stand up again. All my life, I thought we were not just friends but a family that I never had. “Only one of them is the suspect,” Elijah uttered, trying to crack the puzzle. “As of now, all I can do is to watch them closely. You should do t
Chapter 65I closed my eyes, trying to feel the same feeling I've felt towards Elijah. My lips were on his lips, and my hand even traveled on his neck. I moved my lips, still eager to make myself feel those strange feelings I used to have. But then, no matter how I tried, I felt nothing. It was not the same when I remember myself kissing Elijah. It was totally different. It was always strange, but I loved it. The soft kiss that would make my eyes close without me noticing. The silence, as if no one was around us. Our breaths hit each other's face. Our eyes together were filled with delight and unbeatable romance. His hands on my waist felt warm. It has always been like that. A very short kiss that feels like the longest one. I didn't feel any of that when I kissed Brian. We eyed each other and his eyes were satiated with delight, love and sincerity. I wore the same eyes before. But right now, my blank eyes remain—or perhaps, disappointed. I crumpled my hands as I faced Elijah who
Chapter 64“I still fucking love you, Faith.” I felt betrayed. The worst is, I was fighting with myself. The moment Elijah said that, my heart began to race, which I didn't feel a long time ago. As far as I remember, the last time I felt the same was also because of him. I hate myself for feeling this strange feeling again. I could not move in my position as if my feet were glued on the floor. Our eyes were both stuck towards each other. His eyes were filled with sincerity. They were soft as before, which reminds me of how I was captivated by those eyes before—when everything was still fine, when our souls were not ripped yet. He was begging with those eyes. They were speaking to me, trying to make me believe how pure she is. “Trust me, I regret everything. Every day that you were away in four years, I couldn't stop thinking of you that I felt like going mad,” it was the first time that I listened. I have heard all those reasons from him ever since I arrived here. But right that m
Chapter 63“Where have you been last night? Sorry, I slept early. I didn't see you coming home,” Lily said while I was the one cooking our breakfast. I only stared at her for a moment. Just like what the detective said, I should not trust anyone until the culprit is caught. As of now, my mother is the biggest suspect that we have. But knowing that the culprit is around me, I felt like I cannot trust any of them. Who knows? The person behind this might be just playing under my nose for a long time. “Work? I work overtime,” I avoided her eyes and acted normal right in front of her. If it is not my mother, would it be Lily? Would she plan something cruel like that? I don't know. She has been my one and only best friend in my entire life. If it is her, I don't know what I can do, but I am sure that it would break me into a million pieces. Inside me, I was hoping that she is not the culprit. I hope she's innocent. “What else do you want? I really don't understand why you want triple sa
Chapter 62I was in awe. The image of my mother wearing that earring before was flashing back in my head. How can I forget her favorite earring to wear in every grand event that she attended in the past? My entire world was crumbling again and I couldn't pull myself back together. My palm was already filled with bruises because of my nails that bury everytime I clench my hands, just like right now. I was shivering right there and it felt like I'm going mad. “What do you want me to do?” The detective asked in front of me. I couldn't even touch the food that I bought. He was only eating in front of me comfortably, waiting for whatever I wanted to do. “The case is not closed right?” “Yeah. I can open it again and continue what I started if you want me to do that,” he shrugged; he's now giving me the authority to decide whether to continue the digging or not. “Do it, investigate the case. This time, I want it done.” A smirk played beside his lips. “I've been wanting to dig this up, y
Chapter 61“We can move next week to my condo,” Lily mentioned while we are on our way to our businesses. I was the one driving with my head flying elsewhere. I just have to drop her off at the mall before I go to my company. “Okay,” I shortly replied, having no energy in my voice. The weather was gloomy, it makes me feel lazy to move and work today. “Are you sure you don't want to come with me and go shopping? You need this. Take time to unwind,” she has been asking me to come since last night. This is our usual way of decreasing stress, by spending our wealth in luxury things that we love. “How can I go there? I can't even visit my shop in the mall because of the issue,” I can't blame anyone. I was the one behind that exposure of the truth from our past. In my state right now, shopping wouldn't fix everything. “Well, you have a point,” she nodded and shook her head at the same time. I stopped the car in front of the mall for her. She could have used her car but she's being lazy
Chapter 60“My name is Melinda Ching, I don't even know if Elijah Luciero remembers my name,” she chuckled and smirked thinly. “Yeah, I was one of Elijah Luciero's women before. We used to fuck each other anywhere, until he one day brought me to his home and I found out that he's actually married to Faith Flamera, the famous fashion designer,” I crumpled both of my hands while the woman was now revealing everything to the people. I do not remember her anymore. How can I? Elijah brought ton of women in our house and they were fucking each other each night. “I asked my friends, and it turned out that some of them were one of her chicks as well. They told me that Elijah brought them home, too, and they met his wife. He was a cheater—yeah, you heard it right. I think it's the reason why his wife divorced her. Before, I was asking myself, ‘why the hell is she not dumping him when he's cheating right in front of her?’ She was the most martyr woman that I ever met in my life,” I was shiv
