Olivia pov

I squeezed my eyes shut, begging for David to pick up the phone. "Answer the call, damn it!" I muttered, pacing around my bathroom while trying to reach him. The walls felt like they were closing in, and the sound of the ringing echoed in my ears, amplifying my anxiety. Of course, he wasn’t picking up—this guy never answers on the first try.

I dialled again, but it just kept ringing, each tone a reminder of my growing frustration. Maybe he’s in a meeting; he always silences his phone during those. I let out a frustrated sigh and tossed my phone aside, glancing at my reflection in the mirror.

Not bad, I thought, wearing a black baggy sweater that hung comfortably off my shoulders and skinny jeans that hugged my legs just right. I pulled my hair into a ponytail, the familiar motion calming me slightly, and added a bit of makeup—a swipe of mascara and a hint of blush to bring some colour to my cheeks.
