“It’s not possible. Alpha Killian has said multiple times he couldn’t father any children.” James says with a firm shake of the head.
“Look at her, she looks just like him. Black hair, strong facial structure. It would explain why she doesn’t smell like a werewolf. She’s a Lycan.” Luke sits on the other side of me, making me more uncomfortable than I already was.
“There hasn’t been a female Lycan in, what, seventy-five years?” Gabriel says.
“As unlikely as this is, if she tries to confront him-” Damien inputs.
“He will kill her.” Zak finishes, wiping a hand across his face. My heart picked up its pace as yet another person wanted me dead just for existing. “He won’t even
The next evening, Zak and I sat in the car outside of a bustling bar out in the middle of the woods. We had driven nearly half the day to get here. I sized up the building, noticing it looked run down and kind of small. Not at all where I pictured a Lycan King might hang out.“This is it?” I ask, scrunching up my nose.“Looks can be deceiving.” Zak chuckles softly before taking a more serious note. “You remember everything I told you?”“Yes sir.” I said, saluting him.“El…” He groans.“I remember Zak. Just trust me, okay?”Zak had gone over werewolf etiquette with me, explaining how to approach an Alpha
My feet move faster as I look at the time on my phone. I cringed thinking about all eyes on me walking in late to class. I quickly open the heavy door leading into the small school. Two more months of this place and I was free. Free from this school, free from this town, and most importantly, free from my Dad.I jogged down the hall as the last bell rang, managing to squeeze into class just before everyone had taken their seats. Relief washes over me now that I can blend into the back of the classroom where I was most comfortable. I hated attention. I just wanted to coast through these last few weeks undetected. At the end of summer, I was leaving no matter what. Of course I’d have to get a car first, but I’ve been working at the Diner for almost a month. I calculated that by the end of July, I would have enough money to have my car and my freedom.
When lunch came around, I thought I’d finally gotten a hold of myself. My plan was to turn down Ryan and avoid him and Zak at all costs until the end of the school year. I’d thought everything through. The only problem was around them, my brain seemed to not cooperate.I went to grab my tray of food from the counter in the cafeteria, but large hands already had a hold of it. “I’ll take that.” Ryan held my tray just out of my reach. Ryan was also tall, but not as tall as Zak. I was only five-foot four, making it easy for him to hold the tray up high and out of my reach. He smiled down at me as he played his game, but I was not the least bit amused. I put my hands on my hips and raised an eyebrow. “You’re sitting with us.” He stated.I laugh. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.” Ryan sta
ZakIt took everything in me to not follow her after school. I wanted to know where she lived, who she lived with, where she worked. I wanted to know everything about her to be able to better understand her. I parked my Explorer in front of the large building and walked inside the packhouse. My mother greeted me with a kiss on the cheek as she always did.“How was your first day of school?” She beamed, looking so excited to hear all about it. I didn’t understand why they insisted on me going, but they assured me it was for my own benefit and would help me when I took on the role as Alpha. I had hated the idea of school up until I saw her. Now I couldn’t wait to go back.“It was good. Not at all what I expected.” I said honestly, though I couldn’t tell my Mother about El. Not
I felt like I had only slept for five minutes before my alarm went off. I groaned, taping my phone to silence the noise. I almost fell back asleep when my door burst open. “Hey. I want breakfast.” Dad says with a toothbrush in his mouth. He wasn’t very old, but looked like it with his unruly hair and graying beard. I groan yet again, then lazily make my way into the kitchen. “What’ll be today?” I ask as he comes in, throwing on his work uniform. He was a mechanic at his friend Mike's auto shop. “Just make me some toast.” Please, I add in my mind. I quickly prepared the toast, seeing that I was already running late. Not to mention, I haven’t even showered. I slide his toast on the table without buttering it and quickly run to th
Once home, I change my clothes to jean shorts and one of my nicer black shirts. I decided to attempt to straighten my hair but the beast can never be tamed all the way. It still had a bit of curl left in it but overall, I was satisfied with the way I looked. I grabbed my small purse that I rarely used and headed for the door. I hadn't noticed my Dad arrive home and jumped at the sound of his voice. "Where the hell are you going?" He lounged on the couch and I saw the half empty pint of whiskey next to him. This wasn't a fight I wanted tonight. "I got called into work." I hoped he was too drunk to notice my clothes. “In that? Yeah, right. Don’t lie to me. You’re probably going to get high or fuck some guy. You’re just like your mother.” His tone was harsh but he never raised his voice. My hand tightene
I had arrived at school early that day, actually looking forward to seeing Ryan. I wore my hair down and straightened it again. I actually added just a touch of eye liner which was unusual for me. I didn’t want to seem desperate, but I also felt like I needed to be on Ryan’s level. There was no way I’d be wearing pink, but I could at least take some pride in my appearance.“I can see the date went well.” Zak smiles at me as he takes his seat next to me.I shrugged. “I may have had fun.”Zak chuckles, but it seems forced. Something seemed off about him. “Look at you. You’re practically glowing! Did he kiss you?”I turned to look at him, giving my most innocent look. “Maybe.”
The weekend came and went a little too fast for my liking. I lounged around most of the day Saturday and tried my best to avoid my Dad. Apart from him throwing his liquor bottle at me the other night, he had actually been pleasant. Well, as pleasant as he could be. On Sunday, I worked most of the day and was glad I got off earlier in the day so I could go to bed early and catch up on some sleep I desperately needed.I'd managed to push all thoughts of Zak from my mind by keeping myself busy or thinking of Ryan. I was still upset with Ryan over the events from Friday and I knew if I just stayed away from him, Kelsey would back off. Zak's words echoed through my mind. Is it worth it? Honestly, I didn't know Ryan well enough to answer that yet.By the time Monday came along, I decided it best to break things off with Ryan. I just needed to get

As we busted through the woods and into the clearing, I realized we had already made it back. It felt like only minutes had passed since we left. Several people were outside, trying to help with the commotion where they could, but it didn’t seem like anyone was fighting. I saw a few injured people, being helped inside by others and quickly pushed down the pull of my ability.Zak’s mother greeted us outside, holding a pair of clothes. I hopped off of Zak and watched with the same amount of amazement as he shifted back into a human. I wasn’t sure I would ever get used to it.“How bad is it?” He said, taking the clothes from his mother and hastily covering himself.“There’s several injured, but most are just superficial wounds.”
As if reading my thoughts he kissed me quickly, releasing me from my staring. “Don’t worry. I’ll be gentle.”I nodded, drawing in a deep breath as I felt him situate himself at my opening. Slowly he eased himself inside me, stretching me to the max. The pain wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, and I wondered if it was because my body healed itself. Whatever it was, I was grateful. He eased himself in and out a few times at an agonizingly slow pace, giving my body time to adjust. I could tell he was restraining himself, by the way his body shook with his calculated movements. The pain subsided quickly, leaving only slight pressure and an immense amount of pleasure. He rocked back into me, a little harder this time and I moaned in response to urge him to keep going. Seeing I had adjusted, he quickened his movements, letting out low moa
He molds his lips on mine and suddenly my body ignites, heating up with every passing moment. He grabs my waist, pulling me closer until I’m straddling his lap. Nothing could ever compare to the feeling of when I’m with Zak. Nothing could ever make me feel so complete, so whole. His tongue grazes my lips and I part them, granting him entrance. He explores every inch of my mouth causing a small moan to escape my lips. A growl comes from him and suddenly he flips us over without breaking the kiss, hovering on top of me as I lay on the warm rock. I arch my back, needing to be closer to him, to touch him.His lips move from mine, sucking and biting the soft skin of my neck. I could feel the ache between my legs grow the longer he touched me. His lips moved lower to the top of my breast. His eyes flicked up to mine for a moment as he breathed
I rested my forehead on the warm window, closing my eyes and letting the sun melt away my troubles. He wasn’t my dad. I kept thinking it over and over in my mind, our conversation replaying on a loop. You’d think that I would find some sort of joy in discovering I wasn’t related to him, but he was still the man that raised me. The man that was biologically my father was another matter altogether. Very briefly I pictured what life could have been like with a loving father and a mother that didn’t have to hide. I could see us standing in front of a brilliant white house with blue shutters complete with the white picket fence. The perfect family. But that wasn’t reality. Reality was that my real father terrified my mother so badly that she ran from him. Even went as far as to erase her and Liam’s past. What puzzled
“You’re not going to leave without me, are you?” A man calls, jogging up to us. I remembered Kai from the brief time at the party. His golden hair fell in his earth colored eyes and he had about the same build as Zak, maybe a little shorter. I couldn’t help but notice how much he looked like Gabriel and wondered if they were related.“Kai, right?” I held out my hand to shake his.“You would be correct, Miss Luna.” He grabbed my hand, kissing it instead and bared his neck, just as everyone else inside did. Zak let out a low animalistic growl, but Kai just looked amused.“It’s El.” I said, feeling just as uncomfortable by the gesture as I did inside.“Whatever you say, Miss Luna.” Kai said with a
The next morning Zak and I decided to go and talk with my Dad to see if we could pry any answers from him. I had a bad feeling growing in the pit of my stomach about going to see him, remembering how angry he was last time I saw him. "Let's grab some breakfast first and then we will head out, okay?" I nodded, fixing my hair into a bun. Zak had gotten me some fresh clothes from his mom. Just a simple tank top and shorts but I felt so much better in clean clothes. As we walked down the hall, Zak slipped his hand in mine. I frowned despite adoring the feeling of his hand in mine. "Are you sure this is okay?" I say, holding up our hands between us. The smile he gives removes any of my perturbing thoughts and he kisses me slowly, communicating his feelings through the gesture."It's more than okay. Everyone knows now, so there's no need to hide." He kisses my
“This human knows too much about us!” Luke shouts and I hear a few people in the crowd agree. He digs the knife deeper and I gasp, grabbing Luke’s arm in an attempt to pull him away. “She threatens the Alpha bloodline as she has mated to our young Alpha. With these facts, I sentence her to death.”“Drop the knife!” A deep voice booms as the double doors shake the walls they slam into. Luke hesitates, holding me in place. His hand shakes like he’s fighting against himself. The man enters, looking murderous. Zak looked just like him, from his hair to his jawline and facial structure. “Lucas, let the girl go. That is a command!”Luke jumps and releases me with a growl. I practically jump in Zak's arms and he scoops me up, holding me tight. James walks to us, not taking his eyes off of Luke the entir
