Chapter 20

When the deer was busy eating, Thomas striked and killed the deer and picked up the carcass and the rabbit on his way back. 

Sam’s pov  

When Sam woke up the spot next to her where Thomas slept was cold, so he had to have been gone for a while, but when she looked up at the sky it was still night too early for the patrol to be leaving yet. She wondered if he shared her suspicions about the pup. Rain agreed to nurse until we could find her parents. She was still surprised that the Rain agreed to nurse the pup. It was strange that the pup was just abandoned in the forest like that. She knew though that there was no sense in worrying about it now that they would have to wait until the patrol went to go search the area.  

Sam decided to get up and go for a walk to clear her head, but before she left the camp Thomas walked in carrying a deer and a rabbit. “Where have you been this late? When I woke up you were gone, and the spot felt cold.
