Chapter 18

When the search party came to the end of the riverbank, they saw Tiny staring at the river in horror. Frank followed their gaze and saw that the pups got too close to the river and fell in. Without thinking Frank and William plunged into the icy cold river trying to swim against the current as the river soaked their fur. William finally grabbed one of the pups by the scruff and struck out towards the bank trying to keep his pup`s head above the water. The weight of his sodden fur and the pup he was carrying was starting to drag him under when he felt someone swimming strongly beside him. When William looked over, he saw Kim beside him and with one last surge of strength he struck out to the bank.

William felt relieved at the feel of the riverbed beneath his paws and pulled himself and the pup onto shore. William looked around frantically for Frank and the other pups. He sighed with relief when he saw them further down the riverbank. William ran down to where Frank was trying
