Chapter 2

Lucas walked closer to Sam and brushed a stray hair out of her face and put it behind her ear and hugged her breathing in her sweet flower fragrance. I still love the way she smells and she has gotten so beautiful. He realized taking a better look at Sam. He felt all the feelings he thought he had buried away during his groom training push to the surface.  

“That's why you stopped sending me postcards and letters from the places you traveled?” She asked curiously, wondering if there was more to it than he was telling her. Blushing slightly at his touch and his closeness to her as she could smell his scent. She was wondering why her parents had been so secretive with the pack business lately and not including her in the pack talks with the red valley pack.

“Yeah, sadly they didn't want me to come because of how close we were and how painful it was for you and me when we left,” He sighed letting go of the breath he did not realize he was holding. He started feeling weird and felt his face starting to turn red. “I need to get back to my parents so they can start the talks with your parents because after my sister left and with no heirs, I'm supposed to be the next in line for alpha.” He turned around and looked for his parents realizing that was a close one.  

Sam left and went to where her friends were gathering as the party was getting ready to start and she was getting really excited about finding out if Lucas was her mate or not. Her thoughts were interrupted by her parents and the elders starting the ceremony for them to start their first transformation. As they started the ritual and were told to find our mates I was hit with an amazing scent. I heard a voice in my head saying to find a mate so I started following the scent to where Harry was standing. I heard the voice in my head scream mate as I looked up and our eyes locked, I know he knew it too. I could not help but feel a wave of despair and disappointment wash over me that Lucas was not our mate.  

Harry`s POV  

When the ceremony started and they were asked to find their mates I was hit with an intoxicating smell of roses and wildflowers. I Heard my wolf Ethan yell eagerly for our mate to go to her. Before I could move though what I saw before me gave me quite the shock that Sam was standing in front of me. I heard him yell mate inside my head and that is when I realized the smell was coming from Sam. I was too stunned to move but also so happy that my crush was my mate.  

I guess that would explain why I got jealous when Lucas was hugging her earlier and Ethan wanted to rip his head off. I was jolted out of my thoughts by Sam grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the front of the crowd for the next part of the ceremony. Once the full moon was high and its light washing through the windows Sam started shifting first with her bones breaking and red molding. I blushed deeply as I went closer to her and felt the sparks along my arm at her touch. As fur started growing out and her hands and feet were replaced with paws.  

I looked up and saw Lucas with Jessica and everyone had found their mate except for her friend Nancy. I Shivered at the memory of my first transformation without my mate. It was painful and when I looked back at Sam there was Tall black Alpha wolf with white paws and gorgeous green eyes. I shifted into my tan brown wolf and let Ethan have control for the next part of the ceremony, the bonding of the alpha and their mate. I knew I wouldn`t have the guts to do or I would faint at the sight of blood.  

Ethan`s POV  

I had taken over for Harry because he was not good when blood was involved. Which is why I was made omega even though I should be a higher rank like beta or warrior. When Sam turned to me, she was pretty and I heard a voice inside my head saying her name was Ruth and she was Sam`s wolf. After introductions we walked up to the center of the stage for the next part of the ceremony. When I looked up at her father, his tall white wolf standing before me, I could see the anger in his eyes for his daughter being paired with an omega. I heard her wolf whine and she thought that her dad wouldn`t accept me as her mate.  

Sam's POV  

When I looked over after I found out Harry and not Lucas was my mate, I Saw him with Jessica and he did not look happy with the mate he was chosen to be with. Jessica looked ecstatic though that he was her mate and when I saw Nancy without her mate, I felt pity for her that quickly changed into a burning pain as my shift started. Then suddenly, the pain stopped as Harry stood beside me. When I opened my eyes, I saw a black wolf with white paws as if I were looking through another person's eyes. That is when there was that voice again in my head saying her name was Ruth and that she was my wolf.  

After I saw Harry shift and we walked towards the platform to be bonded as mates and future leaders of the pack. When I heard my dad`s wolf in our family's mind link growling at me and demanding in his alpha tone that I reject him as my mate. I heard Ruth whining at the mention of rejecting Harry. I will not reject him father, he is my mate and future co-leader of this pack whether you like it or not even if he is an omega. I mind linked him as I stood tall defying his orders and met his angry gaze unwaveringly. Then we turned our attention to the elders starting the ceremony. I held up my paw as I was instructed to do for the elders to pass the alpha bond from my dad to me. Then after it was over it was time for Harry and I to be bonded.  

Seeing Sam stand up to her dad even through Ethan’s eyes since he had full control I was astounded. I was curious to see how her dad would react to her defiance to his direct order to reject me as her mate. She turned her attention to the elders though before he could do anything. I figured she would be punished later and to my dismay it was time to do the bonding to become mates.  

Ruth`s POV  

I walked up and bit Ethan`s neck and used my saliva to lick it closed and stepped aside showing my neck so Ethan could do it in return before we can start the next process to bond us as leaders. I Felt a sharp pain in my neck that was replaced with pleasure as Ethan marked me. I shifted back to human for the next part and held out my hand for Ethan to cut it.  

Ethan`s POV  

When we finished marking while Ruth was changing back, I changed back also but kept full control. When I looked at her eyes, they were still green. She held out her hand and the elders handed me a knife. I had told Harry to close his eyes so he wouldn`t faint. I dragged the knife across her palm and gave the knife to her after I held my own hand out.  

Ruth`s POV  

It stung a little when Ethan cut the palm of my hand with the knife and then he handed the knife to me and held him out. I dragged the knife across the palm of his hand before handing it back to the elders. I grabbed his hand that I cut with mine as the elders started the ceremony to bond us as Alphas` of the pack. When the ceremony was over it was time for the food that was prepared. Ethan had given Harry full control and I gave Sam back control.  

Sam's POV  

She walked over to Lucas and Jessica “congratulations on becoming mates I`m happy for you both that you found each other.” Sam was sad as well as jealous and knew she did not mean it. Without waiting for a reply, Sam walked over to her friend Nancy and told her she was sorry she did not find her mate yet. Once she was done congratulating and consoling them as she should and went over to Harry. She noticed that Ethan had given him control back and he looked sorry about the whole bonding ceremony.
