LEONARD’S POV:
My nerves were completely active, ready to indulge in aggressiveness. I slid my phone into my pocket and sat on a nearby chair. Beads of sweat gathered on my forehead as my thoughts swirled uncontrollably.
I still couldn’t believe what was happening. Why would Aaron do such a thing? What was his motive? Who had sent him? How many more enemies does Evelyn have to face?
These questions looped in my mind, my head buried in my hands. But one thought stayed longer than the rest—I had to find out what Aaron wanted.
Aaron was known to be a good guy, according to Evelyn who would always stand by students who got bullied back at school.
He was a senior prefect who considered everyone.
What happened now and who sent him.
They did have a relationship together with Evelyn so why would he even want her to lose. But time will tell soon.
I concluded.
I stood abruptly, deciding to check on Evelyn. Walking through the hallway toward her room, I passed a sign that read EMERGENCY UNIT, and a pang of guilt washed over me. For the first time, I felt like I hadn’t done enough to protect her. Maybe I should have hired more guards.
This was supposed to be a happy day for her, but my carelessness had cost her health.
Lost in my thoughts, I suddenly collided with something hard. The impact jolted me, and I paused, realizing I’d bumped into a pole along the path. I quickly adjusted myself, looking around to ensure no one had seen the embarrassing moment. Relieved to find I was alone, I hurried to Evelyn’s room.
Inside, she lay still on the bed, her father sitting beside her, his eyes fixed on a spot. Following his gaze, I noticed he was staring at the heartbeat monitor.
I turned my attention back to Evelyn. She looked so peaceful—too peaceful to deserve everything she was going through. I vowed silently, This won’t last long. I’ll make sure of it.
It had been six or seven hours since we arrived, and she still hadn’t regained consciousness. Fear streamed through my body, but I clung to hope. She would be fine. She had to be.
I approached her father and excused myself from the room. Walking back to my car, I decided to get food for him. Even though I had no appetite, I figured he must be hungry.
After picking up food and drinks from a nearby restaurant, I drove back to the hospital. As I stepped out of the car, my phone rang. It was Alex. My heart thudded as I answered, unsure of the reason for his call.
“Alex, what’s happening?” I asked impatiently.
“Someone just walked into the house, and I think she looks suspicious,” he replied, his tone uncertain.
I was instantly irritated. “Alex, what do you mean you think she looks suspicious? Don’t you know when someone is suspicious?”
“Who is the person?” I asked, trying to rein in my frustration.
From his description, I was almost certain it was Dana. I instructed him to keep an eye on her and hung up.
Returning to Evelyn’s room, I overheard her father talking as I entered. “He’s been here the whole time, just stepped out now. I don’t know where he went.”
I shifted my gaze to Evelyn and froze—she was awake. Relief washed over me, and I took a deep breath, resisting the urge to rush toward her.
“How do you feel, Evelyn?” I asked, my voice almost breaking with emotion.
She smiled faintly, though it was clear she was forcing it. “Just some slight pain in my stomach. That’s all.”
“You’ll be fine soon,” I assured her gently.
Leaving her side, I handed the food to her father. He accepted it gratefully and started eating immediately.
Afterward, I urged him to go freshen up since Evelyn was awake. However, he refused. “Leonard, you’ve done so much already. It would be selfish of me to leave you here alone. Thank you.”
I insisted, explaining that work was under control and that I wasn’t leaving the hospital until Evelyn was stronger. Reluctantly, he agreed to step out for a bit.
With that, I went to fetch the doctor. Soon, we returned to her room. The doctor examined her and turned to us with a reassuring expression.
“She’s fine now,” he said, smiling. “She might feel weak due to the turmoil in her system and some mild abdominal pain. I’ll administer a drip for pain relief since painkillers won’t help her at this time. But she’s ready to go home soon.”
His words filled me with immense relief. I glanced at Mr. Wyatt and saw the joy evident on his face.
Evelyn had drifted back to sleep after our brief conversation. Watching her steady breathing, I thought about how to tell her about Aaron. I wasn’t sure if it was the right time to share such news, but she had a right to know.
Hiding it might jeopardize her trust in me. No matter how painful, I needed to be transparent. But I had to ensure she was strong enough first.
My thoughts were interrupted by the buzzing of her phone. None of us reached for it until it rang a second time. I picked it up from her bag and saw the caller ID—Caleb.
Instead of answering, I sent a text: “Hey Caleb, the party has been canceled. I’m not feeling well and can’t accommodate anyone right now.”
I didn’t know why he was calling, but I was too furious to care. I sent the message and placed the phone back in her bag.
“Leonard,” Evelyn called softly. Her voice was unmistakable.
I turned to her and walked closer. “Yes?”
She smiled weakly, her voice low. “Thank you for everything.”
Her gratitude touched me deeply, but I couldn’t find the words to respond. I simply nodded and stayed by her side, vowing to protect her no matter what.
Evelyn's POV: As I slowly opened my eyes, I could hear a faint beeping sound. It grew louder as my vision adjusted, and I realized I was in a hospital room. My hand was connected to a drip stand, and my dad sat beside me, his head buried in his hands. I tried to speak, but my voice came out as a whisper.“Dad,” I croaked, my throat dry.He looked up, and our eyes met. A tear rolled down his cheek, and his face was etched with concern.“It’s okay, Dad. I’m fine,” I whispered, trying to sound stronger than I felt.He took my hand in his and moved closer. “You’ve been unconscious for a while,” he said, his voice shaking. “We were so worried. I’m just glad you’re awake.”I tried to recall what had happened, but my memory was hazy. Then, like a lightning flash, I remembered. I’d felt dizzy during a meeting, and everything had gone dark. My head felt heavy, as though I hadn’t slept in days.Just as I opened my mouth to ask Dad what the doctors had said, he mentioned Leonard. He told me Le
EVELYN'S POV:As I sat on the couch, I couldn’t shake off the feeling of unease. Curiosity gnawed at me, and my mind raced with questions. What are they hiding from me?The uncertainty fueled my frustration and anger. If something serious was happening, why wasn’t I being informed?I couldn’t help myself anymore. I needed answers. I need to know what happened to me.That isn't too much of a request.“Dad, please,” I said, trying to sound calm, though my voice betrayed me. “Someone tell me what’s going on.”My dad stood and placed a hand on my shoulder. “Relax, dear. You just need to rest and eat something. We can talk later.”But his words didn’t reassure me. I turned to Leonard, who was trying hard to appear composed, though I could see through his forced smile. I gave him a soft questioning look.“Leonard,” I asked, my voice firmer, “can you please tell me what’s going on? Don't you think I deserve to know?”Leonard smiled softly and placed a hand on my arm. “Everything is fine, Ev
EVELYN'S POV:I was surprised to see a saxophonist playing birthday songs. I instantly knew the surprise was from Leonard. A series of boxed gifts lay neatly packed on the table. Overwhelmed with joy, I jumped on him, giving him a tight hug.“Thank you so much!” I exclaimed, tears welling up in my eyes. Everything was so beautiful and alluring. We spent the next few minutes unboxing the gifts, and I was amazed at how thoughtful they were. Leonard had truly outdone himself. No words could express my gratitude. I looked into his eyes and said, “Thank you, Leonard. This means so much to me.”Just then, there was a knock on the door, and my dad entered without waiting for a response. His face showed surprise at the sight of all the gifts. I quickly told him they were from Leonard, and he thanked him graciously. But then, my dad asked Leonard to excuse us. Once Leonard left, my dad looked at me seriously and asked, “What’s going on between you and Leonard?” His voice was filled with emotio
EVELYN'S POV:"Happy birthday, Evelyn," Leonard whispered in my ear.I stood in front of the Bentley Continental GT, stunned and speechless. It was everything I’d ever dreamed of. Overwhelmed, I walked to the car, took the keys from one of the guards, and ignited the engine. The smooth hum sent a thrill through me, and I screamed a thank you from inside before stepping out.The car was stunning, a perfect reflection of my long-held wish. I couldn’t hold back my excitement and jumped into Leonard’s arms, wrapping myself around his neck. "Thank you so much!" I exclaimed, tears of joy streaming down my face. Overcome with emotion, I kissed him, and he deepened the kiss, making the world around us fade for a moment. He grabbed me by butt and pulled me as if going inside his body. And the kiss we shared deppened like it was never ending.Cheers and congratulations snapped me back to reality as the crowd clapped around us. Leonard laughed and hugged me tightly. "You're welcome, Evelyn. I’m
LEONARD'S POV:As she hugged me, her warmth wrapped around me like a soothing balm. Her body was soft yet strong, and I felt an inexplicable calm in her presence. I didn’t want to leave—I didn’t need to—but I had to. The longer I stayed, the more drawn I became to her. The attraction was undeniable, yet it made me uneasy. When I looked into her eyes, they held a serene, unreadable expression. Was she as calm as she appeared, or was there something she was holding back? I wished, more than anything, that I could take away all her troubles, that I could shield her from everything weighing her down.“Goodbye, Leonard,” she said softly, the words pulling me out of my spiraling thoughts. She repeated them as if trying to cement the finality of my departure.I nodded, forcing myself to return to reality. “Goodbye, Evelyn,” I managed, my voice barely above a whisper. I turned and left, each step away from her feeling heavier than the last. When I reached the garage, I glanced at the car I ha
EVELYN'S POV:As I walked into my house, I couldn't help but think about Aaron and what Leonard had told me. Questions about why Aaron would do something like that filled my heart. Life had a way of teaching harsh lessons, and this was one of them—be careful with people, and don't trust too easily. But I didn’t want to dwell on it for long. I had shared an amazing time with Leonard the night before, and I didn’t want anything to ruin those memories. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, forcing Aaron's thoughts out of my mind.Instead, I focused on how Leonard had surprised me with the car and how we had spent the day together, laughing and joking. The way he looked at me, with so much care and affection, lingered in my mind. He made me feel like I was the only person in the world who mattered. I hadn’t felt this way about anyone before, but I could tell when I loved someone and when they cared for me in return. I couldn’t hide it anymore—I loved Leonard.I wasn’t going to let thou
EVELYN'S POV:At the first ring, Leonard picked up the call. His calm voice greeted me, and I wasted no time asking if he could come to my place for the night, whenever he was done with what he was doing.“As it pleases her majesty,” he teased, his tone light and playful.I explained to him that I was heading to see my dad but reassured him that my place would remain unlocked. It took so much discipline not to share the good news about my project approval with him right away. I wanted to tell him face-to-face and see his reaction.Once I was ready, I stepped out of my room, eager to meet my dad. However, as I entered his house, it was eerily quiet. Confusion began to take hold.“Dad?” I called out, but there was no response.I headed to his bedroom door, only to find it locked. My confusion quickly turned into fear.“Dad?” I called again, my voice more urgent as I rushed back to the living room.Just then, the lights flickered on, and there he was, standing with a bottle of wine in hi
EVELYN'S POVAs I sat in the office, my eyes were fixed on the laptop in front of me, one hand resting on my cheek. Though my eyes were on the screen, my thoughts wandered far away. Suddenly, the door creaked open, pulling my attention to the figure standing in the doorway. It was Leonard, and my heart skipped a beat as our eyes met. I glanced at the clock—it was past 6 p.m. I adjusted my chair and sat up straight, attempting to compose myself. As I stared at Leonard, my imagination took over for a moment. He looked like he had just stepped out of an oven—hot and fresh. I could almost pounce on him. A smile crept onto his face as his eyes stayed locked on mine, and I felt my heart flutter. We hadn’t spoken a word since he entered, but the tension between us was undeniable. I found my breaths shallow and labored—it was like I couldn’t breathe. That was when I finally understood the concept of, “you take my breath away.”Leonard broke the silence, his voice low and husky. “Evelyn, I’m s
EVELYN'S POV:Just when I thought I was finally catching a break from all the chaos, my heart pounded uncontrollably as I deciphered who had sent the message. I cursed under my breath in frustration. I hadn’t even finished dealing with Caleb and Dana, and now this? "Get ready for the battle you just began!" the text read.I stared at the screen in disbelief. Why was everything happening now? Hadn’t I already been through enough? Yet, as much as I wanted to break down, I knew I couldn’t afford to. Leonard had warned me before: staying strong was my only option. And I will abide by just that.Sliding my phone into my pocket, I headed to my room to gather my thoughts. I tried to act normal—at least on the surface—but my body betrayed me. My father noticed immediately that something was off when I got back. His concerned gaze lingered as I handed him the documents he had requested earlier.“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice tinged with hesitation.I nodded quickly. “Yeah, I’m fine.” I re
EVELYN'S POV:When I arrived at his place, he was sitting on the balcony, his shoulders slumped, staring out at the horizon. It wasn’t like him. I made my way inside and climbed the stairs, feeling a heaviness in the air. Something wasn’t right. And feared for the worst, but still couldn't say what could be wrong.“Hey, Dad,” I greeted as I stepped onto the balcony, forcing a smile. He turned to look at me, but his response was muted, his tone flat. My heart skipped a beat.As I walked closer, I noticed the small picture of my mom clutched in his hand. His eyes glistened with unshed tears, and it broke my heart to see him like this. “Hey, Dad,” I said softly, kneeling beside him. “I know you miss Mom. I miss her too, more than words can say. But you’ve got to take it easy on yourself. This—this won’t help you, Dad. You know Mom would want you to be happy. She’d want you to find joy, even in her absence. You still have me. Don’t you think I’m filling even a tiny bit of the space she le
EVELYN'S POV:Like the morning sun breaking through the horizon, his voice illuminated my day. He complimented me with a warmth that sent a blush creeping across my face. Though I tried to hide it, it was impossible. Leonard had a way of seeing right through me. “You look cute that way.” He said as he noticed the blush, and tucked me.I laughed as I reacted to it.“Sit,” I said, motioning toward the bed. I brought the breakfast tray up and placed it between us. We ate together, but the meal was brief; the clock reminded us both of the looming workday ahead.Once we finished, I gathered the dishes and headed to the kitchen. When I returned to the room, Leonard was already waiting for a bath. We stepped into the bathroom together, savoring a quiet, intimate moment before the rush of the day overtook us.Afterwards, we dressed and got ready to leave. My phone buzzed just as I reached for my bag. It was my secretary. She reminded me not to forget the files I had taken home to work on. “
EVELYN’S POV:He paused, his gaze piercing mine as though he was waiting for permission to speak. His intensity was palpable, but I said nothing. I just stood there, staring at him, my emotions swirling in a confusing storm of anger, hurt, and vulnerability.Suddenly, a wave of nausea hit me, and I barely made it to the bathroom in time before throwing up. My stomach churned violently, and tears streamed down my face as my body heaved. Leonard appeared moments later, crouching by my side. He helped me clean up without saying a word, his hands steady and comforting.“I’ll be fine,” I murmured, my voice hoarse. “Just… excuse me for a moment. I need to take a bath.”He nodded and left the bathroom, giving me the privacy I needed. The cold water from the shower was both soothing and shocking, washing away some of the emotional turmoil, if only temporarily. I took my time, letting the water cleanse me physically and emotionally. When I stepped out of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel, I not
EVELYN’S POV:My heart was racing as I scrolled through the images and the accompanying write-ups, each headline more shocking than the last. I leaned back in my chair, overwhelmed by a storm of emotions. Tears welled up in my eyes as I struggled to process everything. All I ever wanted was peace—peace I thought I had finally found with Leonard. But now, that fragile trust I was building had been shattered. How could he do this to me?I pushed myself up from the chair and trudged back to the bedroom, collapsing onto the bed. I lay there, trying to make sense of it all, but my mind had reached its limit. No clear thoughts emerged; only a chaotic swirl of hurt and frustration. I tried to sleep, hoping it would bring me some relief, but the turmoil inside me wouldn’t let me let sleep intervene.Frustrated, I got up and began pacing the room. My anger bubbled over, and I grabbed nearby items, smashing them against the walls. The destruction brought no solace, just more emptiness. Desperat
EVELYN’S POV:We walked out of the restaurant, the crowd still waiting outside. I tried to hide my tear-streaked face as we passed through them. When we reached the car, Leonard opened the door for me. I entered, and he followed. And he ordered the driver to move the car.The only sound in the car was the soft hum of the engine and my quiet sobs. How could I have known that Leonard was only taking me for a ride and would eventually break my heart? Caleb was right all along. I remembered his warning, how he’d told me to be careful. Even though we were not cool, I regretted not listening to him.Tears continued to flow as helplessness overwhelmed me."Evelyn, this isn’t what you think. Please let me explain," Leonard pleaded, his voice calm yet desperate. His words only fueled my anger. "Please, Leonard, take me home and spare me the lies. You never even asked me out officially! I only assumed things. How foolish could I have been?" I said, my voice trembling through my tears."Evelyn,
EVELYN'S POVI couldn't help but catch Leonard's glances every now and then. He could barely take his eyes off me, and I felt my cheeks warm with shyness as a blush crept over my face."Why are you staring like that?" I asked, still shy.Leonard looked at me with a deep sigh. "Right now, I feel like I'm getting a tan, 'cause girl, you're damn scorching.""Oh, right, but stop giving me those eyes," I chuckled at my last words. "I mean, you don't want to ruin my period do you?”"Wait, what eyes?" Leonard asked, leaning closer so I could see his eyes more clearly.I gasped. It felt like there was magic in his gaze. Leonard was a ten out of ten, and the more I looked at him, the more my heart fluttered. I was falling for him deeply. I looked away immediately, not wanting to be caught staring—or worse, drooling."I see. She gets a little shy," he teased, a smirk playing on his lips. "You can't really handle me, huh?"My whole face turned red, and I couldn’t meet his gaze anymore. He reache
EVELYN’S POV:The moment the door clicked shut behind him, I rushed upstairs, quietly tiptoeing as I neared Leonard’s room. I didn’t know why, but my curiosity burned—what was Leonard up to?As I approached, I caught snippets of his conversation through the slightly open door.“Listen, Mr. Watt,” Leonard’s voice was calm and firm, “by next week, everything will be sorted out. You’ll have your meeting with her. I promise you won’t regret this. Evelyn’s sharp, and you’ll gain so much from collaborating with the company. You just need to give us a bit more time. I know there’ve been delays, but trust me—right now, she’s not fit for an official meeting.”It hit me like a wave. Leonard had been managing my schedule, helping me when I couldn’t help myself. Mr. Watt should’ve been furious over these constant delays, but he wasn’t—because of Leonard. He’d been standing in the gap for me, silently ensuring things didn’t fall apart. But, I wondered if this was the reason behind Leonard's react
EVELYN’S POV:The sunlight cast a golden glow on my body through the curtains, entering directly into my eyes and forcing them open. I squinted against the brightness, disoriented. It was morning already, though the night had felt far too short. As usual, Leonard wasn’t in bed. I turned toward the door, half-expecting him to walk in with my morning coffee, as he often did. Ten minutes passed, and still, he didn’t show up.A wave of anger washed over me. Why would he just leave without letting me know? Tears stung at the corners of my eyes. I needed him around—his presence was my comfort. Had he left because I was on my period? The thought alone made me furious. If that was his reason, it was rude and lame. And I vowed to not speak to him again. But then I remembered how sweet he’d been the previous night. Could something have happened? My anger began to fade into worry, my mind swirling with a hundred possibilities.I snapped my fingers, trying to shake off the negative thoughts. “Wha
