Chapter 28

Caren’s POV

I knew mom wasn’t leaving our house until she knew Lottie’s whereabouts. But Lottie is here now. Finally, she has agreed to escape. The house is so overcrowded, but we are all managing. It has only been a day, after all. There is often a cue for the bathroom, though. The trick is to go when you feel the urge to go, not when you are desperate.

Ethan had been watching the road for hours. He believes something strange is happening. The number of cars and wolves running up and down the road is extreme. “Right now, may not be the best time to leave,” he says. We all join him to see what he means. It’s not long before we are all convinced, he is right. It is far too busy out there.

We all find somewhere within the barrier that we find comfortable. For me, that is out back in the vegetable patch. I love being one with nature; I guess that fits with my gifts now. Being a wind elemental and having the ability to heal the land. Nix joins me. He tells me about his mate, Ed
