Nikita paced the hospital corridor, her anxiety growing with each passing minute. Time dragged on, and the person she'd been waiting for still hadn't appeared.

Hadn't he promised? Why wasn't he here yet?

Nikita was confused by Nathaniel's absence and wondered why he'd made a promise and then vanished. As his secretary, she was used to accommodating his schedule, but she had her limits.

She didn't know how long she stood there, her legs growing sore and her body reminding her just how long she'd been waiting.

She checked her phone but found no messages or explanations. It was as if he'd never promised to come.

Nikita intended to call Nathaniel and question him. Even if something had come up, he should've informed her. Waiting here while oblivious to the reason felt absurd.

Her finger hovered over the screen for a long moment, but she couldn't bring herself to press the call button. Eventually, the screen dimmed on its own.
