Chapter 23

Nathaniel's icy gaze lingered on Nikita as he tossed the medicine into the trash. He'd seen her and Mason talking happily through his office window earlier, and his anger had immediately flared up.

Seeing them together again after last night made him suspect they were dating behind his back. Nathaniel hadn't realized he was jealous of Mason; he only felt a strong, inexplicable sense of irritation.

As Nikita watched the medicine get discarded, she felt like her heart was thrown away too.

Her stomach churned painfully, a common aftereffect she experienced after drinking, but the pain in her chest was even more pronounced.

Leaning back against the wall, she stared at Nathaniel and, for the first time, addressed him by his name. "Nathaniel."

Nathaniel's brow twitched.

"After all these years, have you ever cared about me, even a little?"
