Chapter 17

Nikita was caught off guard by Yara's question and accidentally cut her finger with the small knife she was holding. Blood quickly welled up and dripped onto the bed, staining the sheets.

"Oh no!" Linda exclaimed in shock.

Yara's heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively started to get up to check the injury. However, Nikita remained notably calm.

She swiftly wrapped the wound with a tissue and smiled at Yara. "Mom, don't worry. I'm fine."

"Let me see how deep it is," Yara said, her face paling with concern. "How did you cut yourself?"

Nikita feigned nonchalance. "I've been busy with work lately and didn't sleep well last night. I guess I just got a bit clumsy."

As she spoke, she yawned slowly to prove her point.

Yara's worry softened into guilt, and her eyes welled up with tears. "It's my fault for falling sick and causing you trouble."

Hurriedly, Nikita reassured her, "Mom, I'm doing this willingly. It's just the two of us now. Are you going to abandon me?"
