After calming Yara down, Nikita returned home, physically and emotionally drained. She'd barely stepped inside when she received a message from Nathaniel. "Got busy, forgot."

A brief, curt message without any explanation. It had taken him all day to remember to text her.

Nikita wasn't sure whether to feel grateful that Nathaniel could think of her even while being wrapped up with Regina.

She stared at the screen for a long time, until her eyes started to sting. Then, she finally put her phone away and went to take a shower.

She didn't respond to his message because she didn't know what to say. She wanted to question him but felt she had no right to do so. She ended up going to bed early.

The next day, she pretended nothing had happened at work.
