Chapter 13

Regina's head smacked against the edge of the table with a thud, the sharp pain eliciting a scream as her face twisted in agony. Her facade of innocence crumbled. "Nikita, you—"

"I told you to stop messing with me," Nikita snarled, her voice chilling to the bone. Regina shivered involuntarily, and the words got stuck in her throat.

"What are you doing?"

Nathaniel's icy voice rang out as he strode forward, shoving Nikita's hand away. The force sent her hand slamming into the wall, and pain seared through her knuckles.

"Nathaniel." Instantly, Regina's expression shifted to one of distress and fear as she ran into Nathaniel's arms.

Nathaniel hugged her protectively and cast a hard gaze at Nikita. "Didn't I tell you not to bully her? Nikita, do you think my words mean nothing?"

Nikita didn't argue, her eyes downcast as she looked at the pair clinging to each other. No matter what she said, Nathaniel would likely dismiss it as an excuse. So why waste her breath?
