His bright blue eyes moved from her head to her toes, observing every feature of her. An almost invisible smile appeared on his lips when he spotted a butterfly tattoo on her left wrist.
"How have you been, Becca?" His voice was low and smooth. It was slow and deliberate, as if he was choosing each word with care.
Rebecca's skin prickled with goosebumps as soon as she heard his voice. For the first time in six years, she was hearing his voice again.
Her eyes moved shakily around him. He was no longer the cute young innocent boy she used to know, he had transformed into a dangerous handsome man.
He looked dangerous in the black tuxedo. And he had a dark aura around him. He had changed in those years, and she easily noticed it.
He took a step forward, and she moved back immediately. She couldn't believe he was the same man she used to love. He was looking so dangerous, and for some reason she was scared.
Axel's eyes darkened when he noticed the fear in her eyes. His expression remained stoic, but a hint of disappointment flickered in his eyes.
"Becca." His tone was soothing, almost reassuring.
"My name is Rebecca!" She snapped, trying so hard to fight back the tears rushing down her cheeks.
Seeing him after those years brought back the memories of the past which she had buried in the deepest part of her heart.
She wanted to show him she had moved on from the past, she wanted to shove it in his face that he meant nothing to her anymore and didn't have the right to call her that, but her emotions betrayed her.
Her heart ached as she recalled what happened six years ago.
It was so painful, she couldn’t control her emotions. She didn't realize she was crying, not until she felt something warm on her cheeks.
As she stared at him, her hers darkened, the hatred in her heart rose and the fear she had for him disappeared.
She moved closer to him, and when she got to his front, she landed a slap on his face.
She staggered back immediately, regretting why she had hit him. It was a dangerous move. She didn't know if he was the same Axel she used to know. What if he hurt her for hitting him?
Her heart raced as she awaited his reaction, but surprisingly, he didn't move, neither did his gaze leave her.
"Becca." Axel called again, his voice becoming softer.
She watched as he moved towards her, and she unwillingly moved back. She didn't know why, but she was scared of being around him.
"Stay calm, okay? I won't hurt you." He soothed.
"You said that years ago, but you still hurt me." She chuckled dryly, trying so hard not to continue crying.
Axel didn't say any words, making Rebecca more hurt.
It hurt her to know he wasn't remorseful for what he did, he didn't even try to apologize. His silence meant more harm than good to her.
Tears welled up in her eyes, she didn't let them fall. She had to constantly remind herself that she had healed from the past. Or maybe she really hasn't.
"Are you the one behind my abduction?" She asked, trying to focus on the present.
Axel nodded his head in reply.
"Why?" The question left her mouth in a whisper.
"Eric isn't a good person." Axel replied.
Rebecca was taken aback. "How did you know my husband?" She questioned.
Axel's eyes darkened. "Husband? The last time I checked, you guys aren't officially married." He said instead, ignoring her question.
"All thanks to you." Rebecca scoffed. "How did you know my fiance?" She asked, rephrasing her question.
"Ex fiance." Axel dictated.
A deep frown appeared on Rebecca's face. "Eric is my fiance, and I'm going to get married to him when I leave this place." She ranted.
"You aren't going back to him." Axel stated, firmly.
"You do not have the right to tell me what to do. You do not own me!" Rebecca snapped, putting emphasis on the last words.
Axel took a step forward, and she didn't move back like earlier. She stood still, staring directly at his blue eyes, while he stared at her brown ones.
"He isn't a good person, Becca." He said, trying so hard not to give her full details.
Rebecca scoffed. "Are you? Huh?" She asked, but he didn't reply.
"Answer me!" She pushed his chest, but he still didn't move, nor did he say a word. It added to her anger. "Axel T Leonard, are you a good person?" She howled, using her two hands to push his chest this time around.
Axel stumbled a bit because of the force with which she pushed him, but all that still didn't make him say a word.
"You were the first guy I fell in love with. I gave you my heart, my soul and my body. You were the first guy that got in between my legs. I loved you with all my heart and soul, Axel. What did I get in return?" She stopped talking and laughed at herself.
She didn't break the eye contact she held with his gaze. She wanted him to see the pain he caused her, and her eyes did a good job of portraying it. After she was done laughing hurtfully, she continued. "You told me all we had was for fun. You reminded me of being a less privileged child that you can't be with. Now answer my question, are you a good person?"
Rebecca was disappointed when she couldn't find any flick of emotions in him. She couldn't tell what was running through his mind, his expression remained unreadable, even after she had just finished pouring out her heart.
Indeed, he had changed in those years. He wasn't the Axel she used to know.
"No, I am not a good person." Axel mumbled under his breath, finally replying to Rebecca's question.
With that being said, he turned away from her, facing the opposite direction.
The whole place became silent, only the chirping of birds could be heard.
She stared at his back, wishing she could see through him and find out what was on his mind.
"If you find happiness with him, then go be with him." He said all of a sudden.
"He is my happiness." She replied immediately.
She heard a dry chuckle from him.
She wanted to say something, but then she saw him reaching for something in his pocket, and when he finally took it out, he turned to her, holding a syringe.
Cold shivers ran down her spine. She didn't know what was injected in it, all she knew was that she was the victim.
She took a step back and wanted to run, but he grabbed her arm swiftly and pulled her closer to him.
His grip on her arm was so tight, his fingers were piecing her skin, making her wince.
Tears fell down from her eyes. "Please don't hurt me." She pleaded, her voice shaking
She saw Axel's eyes flickering in regret, but it didn't last long. "Just know I won't ever hurt you." He mumbled. She was about to speak when he injected her with the syringe, and she immediately passed out in his arms. Axel carried her in his arms and walked out of the garden. As soon as he got outside, he met kira there. She had a frown on her face when she saw him carrying Rebecca. "Should I get someone to come carry her?" She asked. "Get someone to dress her up." Axel said, ignoring her question. "You're taking her back?" Kira asked, a bit surprised. "Don't question me, Kira. Just do as I've said." He ordered. Kira bowed her head, "Okay boss." She muttered and walked away. Axel stared down at Rebecca's face, and he let out a sigh. He continued walking till he got to one of the empty rooms. He placed her on the bed. A few minutes later, Kira showed up with another girl. The girl bowed in a way of greeting, but Axel didn't spare her a stare. His gaze was fixed on Reb
In the dining room, Rebecca, Whitney and Ella were seated patiently, waiting for Eric to bring the food.As soon as Eric dished out the food, Rebecca eagerly took her first bite."This tastes so good." She commented.Eric smiled, he knew her compliment was genuine, not just to make him happy. Her facial expression revealed it.He took his apron off his body and took the seat next to Ella."I'm glad you like it."After that, they all ate in silence. Only the sounds of plates and cutleries clicking could be heard."I'm so glad you are back, I thought I lost you forever." Eric broke the silence."Me too." Rebecca replied with a charming smile on her face.Eric returned the smile. "So tell us, who took you? And why did they let you go?"Ella and Whitney exchanged a knowing glance. They didn't get the chance to warn Rebecca about telling Eric the truth."Well..."Rebecca was still thinking of what to say, when Ella chipped in."She said they got the wrong person. She wasn't the target, but
It was days after Rebecca returned back home, she had finally agreed to move in with Eric after giving it enough thought, and she picked today to move her things to his house.Eric was busy, there was an urgent board meeting so he couldn’t be with her to help her pack her stuff.Whitney and Ella took a day off work just to help her and she was indeed grateful for the friends she had.As Whitney carried the last box into the truck, she spotted a teddy bear bulging out, it couldn’t fully enter the carton. She pulled it out and her eyes dimmed the moment she saw it.She dropped it in the box after a thorough stare at it, and then slowly moved her gaze to Rebecca who was happily chatting with Ella few distance away.No matter how she tried to understand her friend, she just couldn’t understand her to a point. Rebecca had always reveal her hatred for Axel because of what he did in the past, but why did she still have this teddy with her? Why not thrash it?She was there when Axel handed th
”Nice flowers.” Wendy commended as soon as Rebecca entered the room. Rebecca on the other hand didn’t pay attention to what was said. She was lost in a world of her own thought. She didn’t see the face of the biker, but from the sound of his voice, she could tell who it was. It was a voice she would recognize anytime, any day. The voice of the devil who haunts her in her dream. A pat on the shoulder brought her back to reality. She jerked and the flower slipped from her hands, but Wendy caught it before it could fall to the floor.“Thank you.” She mumbled.“You are welcome… By the way, was it Mr Eric that sent you the flowers?” Wendy wanted to know so badly. Because why didn’t the delivery guy hand over the flower to her? Why did he insist on giving it to Rebecca himself? Wendy thought it was something important and secretive, but it was just flowers. Or was there any other package given to Rebecca? Did she hide it? Wendy was so curious.“No.” Rebecca’s short reply added to her
As Rebecca walked out of the house, Wendy tried as much as possible to stop her but all to no avail.“Mr Eric would get angry if you leave without telling me your whereabouts. By the way, it’s getting late and he’ll return soon.” She had tried all she could to persuade her but Rebecca was stubborn. She needed answers and she would get it. She took a taxi to Ella’s apartment and fortunately the sitting room door was opened slightly, indicating Ella was home. As she was about to enter the living room, she heard familiar voices chatting, more like an argument. She wanted to go inside and see what was making them raise their voice at each other, but her steps halted when she heard these words, “You can’t lie to me! I know you called Axel.” Her heart skipped a beat at the mention of his name. What were they talking about? And who called him? Unable to suppress her curiosity, she walked into the house and the two girls were shocked to see her.“Rebecca?” Whitney called, flabbergaste
Whitney and Ella could be seen pacing to and fro in front of the ward Rebecca was in. Immediately Rebecca passed out, they called for emergency and the ambulance arrived in no time. The doctor in charge of Rebecca’s treatment walked out of the ward and they rushed to him immediately.“What happened to her? Will she be okay?” Ella questioned. The doctor’s lips curled up in a charming smile, and they both wondered why he was smiling in such situation.“It’s good to see you genuinely worried about her, she’s so lucky to have both of you.” He commended. “Thank you, but is she okay?” Whitney asked. She wasn’t concerned about his comments on their friendship, that was the least of her problems, but she also didn’t want to sound rude to him.“She’s fine. Her body reacted to shock… By the way, what was going on before she passed out?” The doctor asked keenly.“We were having a normal conversation. Now, if you don’t mind, can we go see her?” Whitney asked.“Sure, you can.” “Thank you.” El
Rebecca pulled her wrist away from Axel’s hand and then moved away from him.“My husband is here, please leave.” The urgency in her voice wasn’t unnoticed. She watched as Axel covered his face with the hoodie and left the ward silently, which was strange. Because she knew Axel so well, he would have tried to protest and won’t leave till she pleads. Something was strange, but she just didn’t know what it was.****** Eric was getting tired of Whitney’s narration, he needed to see Rebecca and Whitney was delaying him by telling story of how Rebecca passed out in the middle of their conversation. Earlier, he was getting ready to leave the company when he received a call from Wendy that Rebecca left home. He called Rebecca non stop but she didn’t pick, he called Whitney too and she also didn’t pick. It was only Ella that answered her call and told him Rebecca was admitted at the hospital. He headed straight to the hospital and met Whitney and Ella at the reception, they were surpri
The drive to Eric’s house was awkward, their last conversation had ended and no one said a word to each other. The girls had a lot on their mind, but they couldn’t say it out because of the presence of Eric and his driver whom were at the front seats. Rebecca was still feeling dizzy, she just couldn’t wait to get home so she would sleep. She had been so stressed lately, and she wished she could go back to when things were just between her, her friends and Eric. She didn’t know why Axel had to return, because ever since he came back, she had lost her peace. They arrived home in no time and after having dinner, she went straight to her room and slept off. While Whitney and Ella were taken to the guest room. She slept well that night and when she woke up, it was already morning and Eric wasn’t in the room. She stood from the bed and went to check the bathroom, but he wasn’t there.“Where did he go to so early?” She muttered, going to take her phone from the bedside table. The d
She could feel his hot breath on her face and she was tempted to open her eyes to see how close his face was. Just as she was about to do so, she felt his soft lips on hers. Her breath hitched immediately, and even though she knew it would lead to this, it still took her by surprise. His lips were warm and soft, and as he sucked her lower lip into his mouth, she felt a spark of electricity. Her body remained still, her legs stayed rooted to the ground as if they were glued there. All of a sudden, he pulled away, leaving her hanging with her eyes closed. Rebecca felt he stopped because she wasn’t reciprocating. To confirm if her assumption was right, she located his neck and wrapped her hands around it. She leaned it, and when she couldn’t feel his lips, she opened her eyes. She felt ashamed when Axel chuckled, but it transformed to satisfaction when he claimed her lips. Her eyelids closed voluntarily and her hand tightened around his neck as she gave in to the worl
Regret; it was little to what Rebecca felt at that moment. This wasn’t how she pictured the conversation to end. Axel had made up his mind to go away from her life completely, and even though she had craved for this moment, it hit her like a storm. She had no where to go to, Eric was still searching for her. But being with Axel, was like an eighty percent safety guaranteed. Without him, she wouldn’t be able to hide from Eric for long, she wouldn’t be able to find the clan, she wouldn’t be able to claim her father’s properties. How could she be so foolish??? She cursed herself and ran after Axel, calling his name repeatedly, but neither did he stop nor turned. She hastened her steps and was able to get to his front, finally stopping him from walking further. She panted heavily, trying to catch her breath. He stared down at her, his face expressionless. Even though he didn’t display any expression, she could tell the question going through his mind; What do you want?
She was too shocked to say a word. She just stared at him, with different thoughts running through her mind. She stood up and took slow steps towards him.“You grew up to be so beautiful.” Thomas commended, smiling at her. When she got close to him, her steps halted. “What…what are you doing here, sir?” She didn’t want to think it was what she was thinking. Everyone at the orphanage knew Thomas to be a good man. He always showed up with gifts and money, helping the kids in any area they needed help with. The head matron assumed Rebecca was his favorite because he was more concerned about Rebecca’s well being, than the others.“You don’t look happy to see me. I’m hurt.” He held his chest dramatically.“I…” She didn’t know the right words to say. She was perplexed.“I know you have many questions going through your mind right now, and I need you to calm down. Take a deep breath and ask accordingly, I’ll answer the ones I can.” He spoke softly. Her brows etched, and at tha
Rebecca kept on checking if their car was being followed by the black car, but fortunately, it wasn’t. She sighed in relief and turned to the front, where she could see the driver from her seat. “What do we do about Kira, what if they try to hurt her?” She asked. “They won’t.” He replied, his gaze focused on the road. “How did you know so?” She questioned curiously. “Because she isn’t the one they’re after.” He spared her a stare. Fear gripped Rebecca immediately. One name kept ringing in her head. ‘Eric’ Thousands of questions filled her mind, but she had no answer to any of them. “Try to contact Kira with the bud, so we can pick her up and head to the airport.” He didn’t reply, and she thought he didn’t hear her, so she repeated her words; loud and clear this time around, but still no reply. She became confused. It was obvious he could hear her, then why wasn’t he replying? She unfastened her seatbelt and moved to the front, using the front seat belt. “Why aren’t
As the car drove speedily, the force of the breeze from the window blew Rebecca’s hair all over her face. She was in the car with Kira and a guy, driving to the airport. It was finally the day she would be traveling to Italy and Axel wasn’t around. He promised to meet them at the airport. She had asked where he went to, but as usual, he ignored her question and told her Kira would come pick her up. She was at the back seat with Kira, while the car was being driven by an unfamiliar guy, probably someone Axel instructed to drive them to the airport. The drive was silent, not because she didn’t have anything to say, but because Kira had all her attention focused towards her phone, and talking to her would be a waste of time. All of a sudden, the car stopped in the middle of the road, and Kira looked up from her phone.“Why did you stop?” She asked.“It seems we are being followed.” His reply came with a hint of urgency. Kira’s brows raised, “Followed? How sure are you?”“
She saw an almost invisible smile appear on Axel’s face, but it disappeared immediately. Why was he happy she agreed? She shrugged the thought off and took a deep breath. Growing up, she’d always been portrayed as a weak child, no one saw the value in her. They didn’t think she had potentials. She was tired of being seen as a weakling, she was tired of being used, she needed to stand for herself and prove them all wrong. But then, a question lingered in her head.‘Is he proud of me for making this decision?’ Her father was able to hide his identity from her and her mum, and it meant one thing; he didn’t want them to get entangled in his dark world. But here she was, stepping into it.‘Would he relent me for going into the world he’d been trying to protect me from, or would he be proud of me for taking over his legacy?’ She tried to think through it, but the only answer she could get was that, whatever decision she’d make now, would determine her future. And she didn’t

“Be free tomorrow, I’ll need your help.” He said instead. He patted Trent’s shoulders and walked out of the room, leaving Trent with a troubling question, ‘Why would the man want to hurt Rebecca in the first place?’ When Axel got to his room, he took of his jacket and fell flatly on the bed, like he had no life in him. “And if you don’t keep to your promise?” The grey haired man had asked him.“Then you can go ahead and kill her, it won’t bother me.” He gave his words.“Why are you so concerned about her?”“I’m not, I’m only doing my job.” He had replied after being quiet for a while.“I pray you do your job well, cause if you go back on your words, I’ll make sure she have a reunion with her father.” Those words Echoed in his head, he couldn’t stop thinking about it. He took a deep breath, calming his nerves. He muttered something incoherent and after that, he took out his phone, getting ready for another sleepless night****** Rebecca stood at the balcony, observing the m
“If I were in your shoes, Becca…” He took a brief pause. She noticed he was trying to refrain himself, and she couldn’t help but wonder why. “I would dive into the real world, and take what rightfully belongs to me. And for those who have hurt me, I’ll make them beg for death. But…” Her eyes lit in curiosity, but again, he took a brief pause. ‘fucking talk if you want to’ She suppressed the urge to scream those words at him “You won’t do any of that.” His tone was firm, turning to her direction. Her eyes bored into his in curiosity. “Why?” The words left her mouth in a whisper. He turned away from her, “The world is a dangerous one, Becca. It’s for the strong.” She scoffed, finding offense in his last words. “Are you indirectly saying I’m weak? Why do you…”“Not indirectly.” He cuts her off. “You are indeed weak.” That being said, he stood up and walked back into the bedroom. Rebecca followed suit.“I am not weak!” She snapped behind him and his steps halted. “I had a
