Chapter 11— A reason behind her actions

Calvin's POV

“I asked a question. Are you a divorcee?” My voice was sharp as I gazed at Cora. I had just seen the news about her and her ex-husband. And all what was going on in my head was that that explained a lot about her.

A lot about her. She was too extra. I got the hunch something was up.

“I asked a question,” I told her and she scoffed.

“Yes. Should I be embarrassed about it?”

Here we go. I tilted my head at her question while she stared plainly at me, “I always wondered why you were too extra. And I finally have the answer. You were abused.”

“That says a lot about how you acted.” My words barely rolled out of my mouth completely when Cora's jaw dropped.

She gazed at me like I had gone insane before she shook her head, “what… what did you just… say?”

“I mean your past definitely says a lot about the current you.” My words came out just like the thoughts were in my head and I saw Cora swallow hard before she smiled.
