Chapter 9

Ariella's POV

I started in surprise, bending slightly and using my hair to cover my face as best as I could.

Damien shouldn't know it was me in the car; he could only make out the outline of a woman.

Matthew immediately unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car.

"I'm not available right now. Take a taxi back by yourself."

He looked at Damien, exuding an authoritative aura and a chill that demanded obedience.

Damien hesitated for a moment, then glanced again at me sitting in the back seat. Curiosity got the better of him as he asked, "Uncle Matthew, where are you going? There's a woman in the back seat, isn't there? Who is she?"

My heart was pounding, afraid that Matthew might tell him something.

After hearing his question, Matthew hesitated for a moment but said nothing. Damien immediately seized the opportunity, his hand on the door handle.

"Aunt, if you won't say, I'll just see for myself!"

The next second, the door was pulled open. I quickly covered my face, but it was too late
