Chapter 17

Ariella's POV

The car drove slowly on the road. It was already evening, and the sunset filled the entire sky. He was driving across a sea bridge.

I looked out the car window and was instantly stunned. The beauty outside was beyond words. The fiery sunset illuminated the entire city, and the golden light of the setting sun penetrated the clouds, casting a dazzling glow on the glass walls of the skyscrapers.

Matthew's voice sounded low, pulling me back to reality.

"I looked for the kind of herb you wanted, but it's out of stock in the market. However, I inquired with a very well-known doctor. There's another way to treat your mother's illness."

I looked at his profile and asked, "What way?"

"You'll find out if you promise to come home with me," he said, not even looking at me, keeping his eyes on the road.

I knew what he meant, and I was torn, clenching my fists. My nails dug into the flesh of my palm, but I didn't feel any pain.

"Okay."

After a while, I nodded.

He turned the car around
