Chapter 29

Seth’s POV

The full moon hung high in the sky, casting a pale light through the canopy of trees. It wasn’t like I needed it; my Beta wolf’s night vision cut through the darkness effortlessly. I leaned back against the rough bark of an ancient oak, my body tensed in every muscle, my head dipped forward, eyes closed, as I tried to clear my mind.

A sudden snap of a twig had my eyes flashing open, my instincts sharpening. “Why are you still following me? Didn’t you call your ‘daddy’?” I muttered, not bothering to look up. Her footsteps crunched closer.

Layla’s figure loomed over me as she held out the burner phone. I took it from her, glancing up to meet her gaze. She shrugged, a nonchalant act that seemed out of place. “I did, but I don’t know how long it’ll take for him to get here, and you weren’t seriously going to leave a helpless 19-year-old all alone in the woods with two dead bodies, were you?”

I raised a brow. “You’re 19?” The words slipped out before I could stop them.
