Chapter Forty-Three

So, the outfits for the parade were warm, and modest, but sexy? Not so much. We wore black leggings with tall black boots, a shimmering gold T-shirt with a heavy green overcoat, the lapels velour, the shoulders too big for our frames. I didn’t mind, the morning air was chilly, and being on the float didn’t hide us from the wind. I had to keep one hand on my top hat to keep it from flying off, while the other waved at all the parade watchers.

Mindy was throwing beads and chocolate gold coins, losing her top hat halfway through to the bottom portion of the rainbow float. 

The end of the parade had rows of beer tents, Irish and non-Irish patrons already celebrating, some probably still celebrating from last night. 

I never understood how people could drink profusely and still function the next day. I’d drink too much and feel like death for the next two days.
