Chapter Forty-Six

We’d skimmed through the items, fancy baskets filled with expensive items and services. Some included weekend stays in vacation homes for thousands of dollars, dinner reservations and five-star restaurants, yacht trips and private flights. I was out of my league with the numbers written down on the sheets of paper. 

Rich felt the same way, his eyes widening with each item. He’d joked with me as if he were debating on bidding but would shake his head to indicate he was kidding. He did have a good sense of humor; it was what had drawn me to his possible friendship. 

“What are your plans for after this grand party?” he asked once we were done observing the auction items.

“I’m not really sure,” I lied. “We might just head back to the hotel, go to bed early since last night was so late.”

He ran his hand through his hair. “Yeah, look, about last night.”
