She’d taken his arm when he offered it to her, and my confidence began to dwindle. Did she really have an interest in this moron? He had no business being at a fundraiser amongst the high-class society of Chicago, which meant he was either in denial, or putting himself through agony to impress Kelsey.

I’d cautiously followed the two of them toward the silent auction tables, careful to keep a good distance and not to be seen. I needed a visual of her face, to see if she was entertained by his company, or if she was simply being cordial.

Kelsey had given me a fair share of scowls, and I had a good inkling on if she was comfortable in situations or not by her expressions. The tables were crowded now that dinner was finishing, the business owners and socialites were either bidding on items, or bragging about what they had donated for the auction.
