Chapter 209

They gazed into each other’s eyes intently, roaming through each other’s mind, but finding it hard to utter a word.

Emily gasped as she thought of how mean and heartless Barbara could be. She glanced at Richard again, and a wave of pity flushed through her soul. Indeed, he didn’t deserve any of the harsh treatments thrown at him.

“I’m sorry”, Emily finally mouthed after she found her voice.

Richard looked pale and dumb. She could see tears welling up in his eyes and for a moment, she thought of how to help.

With unstable steps, she covered the distance between them while trying to retain her balance on the ground.

“Can I hug you?” She asked with a quivering voice, still unsure if she was taking the right decision.

Richard nodded. He scoffed silently when he thought of how cute she sounded while asking for unnecessary permission.

All he wanted was a hug from her.
