Memories

Zayden’s P.O.V.

Firstly, Helena’s problem and now, an unexpected rogue’s attack fucked my brain, I had to regulate warriors by myself to defeat them. How on earth did they grow strong despite all the restrictions?

Anyhow, I returned to my office to deal with an unending heap of files alone, my Beta Alex was still busy with the border affairs. The heavenly aroma of coffee greeted me there, soothing my tensed muscles. I picked up that cup from the table and took a sip and coughed uncontrollably.

“What the Hell! Is it coffee or candy?”

The duty guard, Allen, came into my office immediately.

“What’s your command, Alpha?”

I banged that cup on the table.

“Who made this coffee?”

He bowed his head in respect.

“I did, Alpha.”

His simple response skyrocketed my anger, I yelled at him.

“Why did you touch my coffee mug? Go and ask Helly…”

As soon as Helly’s name slipped out of my tongue, a realization hit me hard.

Helena was in prison on murder charges!

I pushed my fury aside, and walked towards my chair, then asked casually.

“Did she request to see me?”

“No, Alpha.”

After staying silent for the whole day, my wolf Blitzer took this opportunity to interfere.

“You have hurt her, bastard.”

As Blitzer was initiating an argument, I shooed Allen away. A gust of cold wind brushed my skin, I dragged my chair beside the window and lit a cigarette.

“Helena has committed a serious crime, Blitzer. Prime evidence is against her.”

Blitzer scowled and turned his back on me. I put the cigarette in my lips, letting the taste of strong tobacco flow into my breath. My breathing grew relaxing, I chuckled.

“We share the same father, Blitzer. Think well before cursing me.”

The taunt on his limited intellect was an attempt to keep him talking, our smooth communication was a rarity. Well, it was successful, as Blitzer growled at me.

“Only you are a bastard. You have locked our Luna in the prison. Me? I am certain that she is innocent. An Alpha wolf requires no questionable evidence to make a proper decision.”

I continued to breathe in tobacco for a while, the smoke found its way into the wind.

“As a leader of the law-abiding society, I have to respect the rules. That necklace is strong evidence, but it doesn’t mean that I will not investigate this matter further. That witness will be found soon. I will listen to his confession in person.”

Blitzer mumbled under his breath and hid his face behind his tail, following his tradition of ignoring me. I sighed and looked out of the window; the shining crescent moon broke the bounds of my treasured memories.

It was a crescent moon when I shifted for the first time in front of Helena. She was literally screaming in joy.

“Your black wolf is majestic, Zayden.”

Her child-like innocence was so charming that I gave her a ride in the entire forest, even Blitzer was howling in glee. Then later, I pulled her into my arms and held her close.

“Give me an heir, Helly. I want to be a father.”

It was also her routine to give me a present on the 7th of every month, celebrating the date of our marriage.

The continuous vibrations on my cell phone forced me to check it, the date on the screen caught me off guard.

“8th November.

So, it was our second wedding anniversary yesterday!”

Suddenly, the door of my office knocked, I lit another cigarette and granted permission. Savvy entered the office gracefully.

“How are you, baby?”

“Here we go again!”

Blitzer removed his tail and snarled at Sylvia, registering his hate for her. She elegantly walked towards me, her one significant trait which made me fall in love with her before.

But her model-like figure was nothing before my wife. Helena's jet-black silky hair, gray eyes were pools of hypnotism, the most noticeable feature on her 1.61 m frame.

Adorned in a skin-tight red dress, Savvy hopped on my office table to sit on it, her long bare legs were on full display.

“You work so hard. Don’t stress yourself, Zayn.”

I nodded and asked her.

“Please give me that blue file on the table. There’s still a lot of work left.”

Savvy handed me the file and stood beside me.

“Did Helena request a meeting to explain her innocence, Zayn?”

Her question was a blunt knife that jabbed into my heart. I kept my face straight and spoke.

“I was busy at the border. So, no idea!”

“Zayn, I still can’t believe that Helena stooped so low just to marry you. Not only she used her mother’s death, but planned an attack on your parents too.”

She stretched her arms and started rubbing my shoulders softly.

“Luna status is just another name for endless responsibilities, Zayn. Someone can do such horrible things just for a false claim, I can never imagine it even in my wildest dreams.”

Although I was completely silent, Savvy disregarded my ignorance. She wrapped her arms around my neck and leaned in gently to kiss it, letting her lips linger there.

We had an intimate relationship for a year before my marriage, but this felt so wrong that I got up immediately.

“Some other day, Savvy. I am busy.”

Savvy was clearly disheartened by my refusal when she left; however, I couldn’t do anything to comfort her. My mind was a mess, I had to discipline my emotions before reshaping my life.

“Why don’t you want to see me, Helly?”

Was I really a ladder for her on which she could step up to acquire wealth and greatness? Was our relationship nothing to her?

Besides Alpha and the criminal in this current situation, we were husband and wife. At least, she could have asked for an audience to explain the truth!

“It's time to answer my questions, Helly. I can’t stay here to indulge in one-sided arguments.”

I rode my Range Rover to Pack’s prison and found sleeping duty guards there. Who would protect the pack if my security team was sleeping like this?

I reprimanded them for better progress, but there was something odd in the heavy air. Before I could register, my hurried steps took me to the death cell; my thundering heart was ringing ominous bells in my mind.

Without wasting any second, I used my card to open the door and stepped into the corridor of the dark cells; the pin-drop silence ran a shiver of dread down my spine.

Helly?

Why couldn’t I hear her heartbeat?

As I reached near the fourth cell, the door was already open. A paper was rolled in the space between the bars.

I read the paper, and a signed confession from Helena blew my mind!

Was she kidding me?
