Escape

Helena's P.O.V.

“What did you do to my brother?”

My words came out as a shriek, the murderous glint in Sylvia’s eyes sank my heart. Liam was too innocent to defend himself against that vicious woman.

“Not yet! But unfortunately, many things can happen to that human mutt, Helena. You know that he even tried to argue with Zayn for you.”

She giggled, savoring the memory in her mind.

“One punch! All it took was one punch to silence that childish opposition. He was lucky enough that Zayn aimed for his mouth; otherwise, you can imagine what could happen if it landed on his chest!”

The hidden threat in her words knocked out the sense from my head, struggling to process what I just heard. My Liam was beaten by Zayden himself, there was no chance in Hell he could survive like this.

“No, it’s not true. Zayden is not like that!”

Sylvia listened to me with great interest, while fanning her face with a confession paper.

“Oh, really!”

She giggled, as if I was telling her a joke.

“Zayden readily believed my fake evidence, like he was waiting to get rid of you. Then he slept with me and approved my Luna Ceremony. What else do you want?”

She maintained her intense eye contact with me and raised her brow, her challenging smile crushed my castle of hope.

“Sign this paper, Helena. It’s for your own betterment.”

Suddenly, loud screams followed by heavy footsteps resonated in the prison, two muscular guards dragged Liam to my cell. He was fighting off against their iron hold.

“Don’t agree with her, sister.”

The blood running from his nose clenched my heart, I begged Sylvia.

“Please leave my brother. I am your rival, you can kill me, but not my brother.”

Sylvia spat on the floor and growled furiously.

“What a dramatic brother-sister duo! I will make sure to bury you both together.”

Then she extended her sharp claw and put it on Liam’s neck.

“Sign this paper. Otherwise, I will slit his throat right now.”

At that moment, all my reasoning went straight to Hell. I did exactly what a sister should do in such kind of circumstances.

“Stop it! Give this paper to me, I will sign it.”

The paper was signed with a speed of light, she withdrew her claw after receiving that confession letter.

“Weak!”

After getting what she wanted, Sylvia turned on her heels and sauntered towards the exit.

As soon as she left, those guards released Liam and bowed their heads in respect.

“We are sorry, Luna. Please forgive us.”

When my husband was the one who locked me in a death cell, how could I complain about their rude behavior?

“It’s alright. You are doing your duties.”

“Thank you, Luna.”

One of them stepped forward and opened the door of my cell.

“The situation in the Pack isn’t in your favor now. It will be best if you escape quietly. Please save your life, Luna Helena. We can guide you out through the secret tunnels.”

I looked at my brother’s pale face, his broken nose was just a trailer of what was in the store for us. So, I agreed with them.

“Please help us. I will never forget your favor.”

Liam held my hand, and we followed the way led by the guards. Their torches made our access easy through the dark tunnels.

After walking like forever, we came out from the other end, the bright sunlight blinded us for a second. We thanked them for their act of kindness.

“You have done so much for us, Luna. This is the least we could do for you.”

We knew that an unclaimed territory was towards the South of the pack, so we started running blindly in that direction. That dense forest was unknown to me, I never stepped out of the Moon Howler’s Pack in my life.

We took a short water break and kept running, but still, several snarling wolves started following us in the evening.

“They are so fast, sister.”

Liam urged me to run faster, the approaching thuds were getting closer. But my weak legs betrayed me.

“I-I am trying, Liam.”

As expected, a group of wolves circled us in a heartbeat. The appearance of those foreign wolves alarmed us. As the wife of an Alpha, I was aware of our Pack’s signature wolf form, but those wolves were entirely different.

“They aren’t our pack members, Liam.”

My brother clutched my hand in a tight hold and spoke breathlessly,

“T-they are the Blazing Paw Pack’s members. I-I have seen them practicing with our Pack’s soldiers.”

“At last, Sylvia has sent her personal touts to end our lives.”

Those snarling and growling wolves were bloodthirsty, following their master’s command. Some launched at us from the front, I closed my eyes when one of the giant wolves specifically attacked me.

The sharpness of his lethal claw slashed my arm, but it didn’t go further. Instead, many wolves started growling ferociously. I parted my eyes and gasped at the sight before me.

Two groups of equally strong wolves were fighting fiercely, tearing each other apart. But soon, the Blazing claw pack’s warriors were outnumbered, they fled to save their lives.

As the sounds of bone cracking resonated in the forest; we covered our eyes to avoid embarrassment.

“Who are you?”

A gruff voice questioned us, that Alpha tone stunned me. I opened my eyes and saw the rogue Alpha Jerald, standing tall in his Alpha’s glory. Multiple scars on his old, muscular body were his war medals, he was famous for messing with strong packs.

Irked by our silence, he asked another question.

“Your scents are revealing that you both are born wolves. Why didn’t you shift to save your lives?”

Liam disregarded his bleeding body and replied helplessly.

“Me and my sister are wolf-less. We can’t shift.”

Alpha Jerald nodded and inquired.

“Oh, and your names?”

“Liam and Helena Hensley.”

Liam’s response widened his eyes. He glared at us, as if we were lying.

“Hensley?”

Then he observed us keenly, sniffing the air around us. His deep sigh puzzled me.

“Come with me, there is someone whom you need to meet.”

My body was screaming to resist a single step further, throbbing pain was unendurable. But denying our savior’s first order would be impolite.

A wave of haze overpowered my senses, as I tried to move, consuming my leftover strength. Finally, my mind gave up, providing me much-needed solace in the world of unconsciousness.
