Prison

Helena's P.O.V.

“This is an arranged marriage. Don’t expect me to behave like a traditional husband!”

.

“You are indeed a good administrator, Luna Helena. I admire your intelligence.”

.

“I don’t know when, but your love has taken over my heart. I would like to spend my whole life with you, Helly.”

.

These scenes of our two years of marriage were flashing before my eyes, laughing at me in the darkness of the death cell. Being married to an Alpha was challenging, not to mention my mighty husband, Alpha Zayden Ellsworth, whose name was the epitome of power and control.

Keeping up with his regal taste as a wolf-less partner was difficult, it took me a long time to win Zayden’s favor. Gradually, my dedication found its way to his heart, he fell in love with me. We were even planning to have a baby!

On the night of my second wedding anniversary, I was lying on the silver floor of the prison, shuffling my memory to find a single day when I didn’t work hard to prove myself.

“A daughter of a servant has to work hard to elevate her status.”

My mom, Luna’s personal maid, died while saving Zayden’s parent’s lives. It was her last wish to join us in this sacred bond of matrimony. Marrying my puppy love at the age of eighteen was a fortune which cost me my mother’s life.

The start of our relationship was only tears and pity. But later, we made a perfect home for a life-long companionship with love. I didn’t even mind Zayden’s condition of my Luna’s accession after our second wedding anniversary.

Now, thinking of that, was it all a lie? How could Sylvia just appear one day and ruin my happy home? Was Zayden looking for her in the past years? Were they in contact, waiting for this day to kick me out?

Overthinking was causing a short-circuit in my brain, burning my nerves with its sparks. My wayward emotions were creating worst-case scenarios where Zayden would simply execute me for this heinous crime. This mere thought shook my body, diverting my attention to my only relative left in this world.

“Liam!”

His name came out as a whisper from my mouth, my heart thumped, as it struck me like a lightning bolt.

“My twin brother is also wolf-less like me. How will he survive in this Pack without my support?”

A wave of energy ran down my limp body, I got up and dragged myself in the direction of silver bars.

“Please tell me about my brother Liam, where is he?”

A team of guards walked before me, but they turned deaf ears towards my begging. The ones who respected me as their Luna were against me now. Perhaps Zayden had decided to hang me in public.

I lost track of time while crying non-stop, a loud siren snapped me out of the daze.

“Alpha Zayden has announced the date of the Luna Ceremony. Madam Sylvia Bryson will be marked as Luna of the Moon Howlers Pack on the 14th of this moon.”

“No!”

A shriek rolled out of my tongue as my head spun, this pang of betrayal shattered my soul. The tears splashed down my face, crying was my only friend left there.

“Tik, tock!”

I heard approaching footsteps, that high heel was hammering on my mind. Sylvia glided before my cell and flicked her wet blonde hair.

“Well, Well, Well! Look who is here! The worthless shit of the Moon Howlers Pack!”

I ignored her hatred; every misunderstanding would be clarified if I got a chance to meet Zayden alone. As the guards refused to listen to me, I asked Sylvia.

“Where is Zayden? I want to meet him.”

Sylvia gave me a weird look, and then broke into a fit of laughter.

“One night! You have spent one night in the prison and already lost your mind?”

She clicked my picture on her cellphone and continued her statement.

“Let me remind you, Miss Helena Hensley. Zayn has clearly said that he will never see your face again. He is an Alpha, no one can change his decision.”

The way she addressed me set me on fire, I grabbed the bars and hissed at her.

“I am Zayden’s legal wife!”

Suddenly, a whiff of foul scent invaded my nostrils, Sylvia’s freshly showered condition exploded my head.

“Y-You h-had sex…”

The rest of the revelation was hard to accept verbally. Sylvia’s blue eyes glimmered, they were full of pride.

“Yes, we pulled an all-nighter, Helena. Zayn didn’t let me sleep for a second. He is madly in love with me. That’s why he announced a Luna ceremony for me.”

Her show-off depicted Zayden’s strong support; indeed, she had snatched everything from me in one night. As a habit, tears burned my eyes, I chuckled.

“Just remember one thing, Sylvia. A slut can’t be a good wife!”

Sylvia’s porcelain white face darkened; my insult pinched her aching nerve.

“Listen to me carefully, Helena. Zayn will marry me. Now sign this confession and accept your crimes. I will suggest for your life-time imprisonment instead of the death-penalty.”

Her audacity to prepare a confession paper beforehand baffled me, I grasped the bars so hard that my knuckles turned white.

“I will prove my innocence at trial, Sylvia. Death is better than confessing a crime I never did.

I will never sign it.”

My firm response brought a venomous smile to her pretty face, adding to the cringe of her painted beauty. She leaned towards me, playing with the necklace around her neck.

“Is your innocence more important than your brother’s life, Helena?”
