Her eyes widened before falling to the floor of her diner.

I didn't know what she wanted to say but I couldn't bear it.

Karl chipped into my head, “Don’t tell me you are mad at her, Ayden.”

No… How could I be mad at her? I was mad at myself and disappointed in myself because I had obviously failed at loving Zadie properly.

I mean, if she couldn't tell me how she felt, there must be a reason. Perhaps she had concluded that I wasn't worth her heart or that she needed to guard herself from me just in case I go back to being an ass who didn't want to know her and keep her at bay.

I was a failure.

“I don’t see why you are brooding over this, Ayden. You and I know what she feels. We can sense it. You can feel it, in fact.” Karl pointed it out to me.

Zadie strolled out of the changing room and I didn't miss how her legs trembled subtly with each step she took. I didn't miss the sway of her hips and neither could I block out the scent of her desire.
