Sadly, my hopes were crushed by the time I woke up, got dressed, and left Chloe’s home that morning.

He didn't come for me.

Chloe and I had to sneak out of her house this morning because I didn't want to run into Lucas who came home last night and came straight to Chloe’s room to see me. Apparently, he perceived my scent the moment he entered the house.

Avoiding him was the only thing I could do even though I couldn't avoid him forever. After all, Chloe still wanted me back in their home tonight. I might be staying here for a while.

Again, he didn't come for me.

I thought I would hear a commotion outside last night but nothing came. Even now that I was sitting beside Chloe while she drive us to Ayden’s home, I couldn't keep my shattered heart from wandering back to Ayden and what I believed we had.

“Still alive?” Chloe asked me.

I slowly turned to my best friend and she took her eyes off the road for a second. “I am breathing, Chloe.”
