Dead and Gone

Helios’ POV

I can’t believe she would go out and meet a guy to get pregnant and lock me into this marriage.

Luckily, Madeline told me everything. She is always my life saviour. I’m glad she’s still with me even though I married another woman.

“Can’t you stay for the night?” Madeline asks.

I place a kiss on her forehead. “I’m sorry, you know Mom will come later and if she finds out I am with you rather than the wife she wants for me, she’d definitely hate you more. Do you want that?”

She shakes her head “Of course I want your mom to accept me. Because sooner or later she would become my mother too. Right?”

I smiled at her “Yes. I just need to tell her everything tomorrow and then divorce Mallory.”

“Okay. Good Night then, see you tomorrow for out lunch date, okay?” She says and I nod.

I bid her good bye and went straight home.

I opened the door and sat on the couch. I stared at the stairs going upstairs.

I can’t face her right now, I can’t believe her. She’s cunning and I don’t know how my mom got fooled by her.

I sighed. I sat down the couch and took a glass of whisky to drink. After a few minutes, a knock came on the door.

I opened it and it’s Ben.

“What are you doing at this time of hour?”

“Oh uhm, Mallory left and forgot to take these pills.” He says and I gestured him to come in.

“How long before you arrived here?” He asks.

“I don’t know, maybe 20-30minutes ago. Why?”

“Shit.” He says and started going up the stairs.

“You’re a good friend but not a good husband. Didn’t you notice the broken vase up here?” Ben says and now noticing pieces of broken vases on the stairs.

We hurriedly went to my room and found bloody Mallory on the bed. Our bed.

“Still breathing.” Ben says and carried her down the stairs and into the car.

“I—-I’ll drive.” I say, still processing everything.

“You can’t. I will. Just go in here and support her.” He says.

Then my phone rang.

“Not now Madeline.” I say but I froze when I hear her weak voice.

“He—-helios. He—lp.”

“Madeline. Where are you?” I say in a panic.

“Man come on!” Ben says.

“I—-m sorry. Madeline needs me, I’ll meet you in the hospital.”

“Don’t regret this.” He says and drove off.

I went to my car and drove where Madeline was. But when I checked the GPS on her phone she was in the same hospital as Mallory.

I drove there as fast as I could and while at it, I called Madeline’s best friend.

“She got into an accident Helios. I heard she might need blood transfusion.” Irene says sounding scared and crying.

“Don’t worry, I am on my way. Why did she went out anyway?” I asked.

“I called her and asked her to come pick me up, I didn’t know this would end like this, I’m sorry” she said and I sighed.

And finally outside the emergency room.

“Ben, Madeline first.” I said but Ben shook his head.

“If something happens to Mallory because of your stupidity. Don’t come to me and regret it.” Ben says and went to save Mallory.

I scoffed and went inside Madeline’s room, to find her with a doctor inside.

“Mr. Kinsley, she’s still unconscious. We can talk outside.” The doctor said and I nod.

“Bad day today. Two of the most important women in your life got into an accident.” The doctor said and I nod.

“Just take my blood, we’re a match. She donated before for me.” I say without a doubt.

“Of course, this is for your wife anyway.” He said and I shook my head.

“It’s for Madeline. Me and Mallory are not a match.” I say and the Doctor raised an eyebrow.

“Mr. Kinsley, sorry I got confused. Ms. Madeline is type A and you’re Type B, so is your wife.”

“What? That can’t be. Madeline donated her blood to me years ago to save my life.”

“Let me just check maybe it’s a mistake on out system.” He says.

“What the——“ he says.

“What is it?”

“The records before are not here but the blood test we did is. And it says, the same thing. You’re wife donated blood to you years ago to save you.”

Realization hits me. Now all I see is red.

I walked fast to go to Madeline’s room. It was Mallory who was telling the truth all along.

When I got to the door of Madeline’s room, I heard it all.

“You did a great job changing the result of the paternity test and not to mention the results years ago. Now do so it with my results!” She whispers scream but I heard it all. My hearing senses are good. Really good.

I walked in and she immediately hid her phone.

“Hey. What did the doctor say?” She asks asking sweetly and pretending to be weak.

I looked at her coldly and went to her held her neck tight “You fucking bitch! I know now, you were not the one who saved me it was Mallory all along! And our child….”

“Wh—-what? Did she tell you that? It’s not true!”

“Don’t fool me again, I heard it right out from your mouth!” And held her neck even tighter.

“Please Helios, forgive me, you love me and I love you thats why I did it.” She says but I didn't listen.

“Hope and pray, Mallory will come out of the surgery soon, or else prepare for misery. I won’t kill you but as you live your life, you wished I did.” I say and with that I withdrew my hands from her neck and she’s gasping for air.

I pick out my phone and called in guards to look after her and not let her escape.

I informed them that she’s a prisoner of mine. And they understood.

Once done I went to the emergency room to wait for an update for my wife.

2 hours later. Ben came to me.

“What are you doing here?” He asked.

“I know the truth now. Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be inside that room saving my wife?”

“I told you you’d regret it. You thought I was playing with you when I told you its Mallory who saved you then? I’m your best-friend then Helios. I never would have lied to you. Now she’s gone.”

“What do you mean gone?” I asked him.

“She died an hour ago. That’s why I am not inside anymore. She was sent to the morgue and I decided to what to do with her, because for sure you didn’t want to do anything with her. But if you want to, visit her grave and tell her you’re sorry.”

“No, you’re lying.” I tell him.

“I wish I am lying Helios. Sorry, can’t change anything now can’t it? Be with Madeline, since that’s what you always wanted in the first place. And here, she told me to hand this to you when the time is right.”

He handed me a sealed enveloped. And I immediately opened it.

“Divorce papers, already signed.” I say in shock. There’s a letter inside and I open it.

“Be Happy and be with the one you love. I’m sorry for being a hindrance with your happiness.” It said and signed by her.

“I guess she knew where this is going, but then again. Divorced or not, you’re not married now Mr. Kinsley. And I wish you all the fucking happiness in this world.” Ben says and leaves me alone.

I screamed and cried.

This can’t be, I did this. I killed her.
