Chapter Twenty

The rays of sunshine filtered into the room, illuminating it. I stirred, wincing slightly as I searched blindly for my phone.

It was just a little past 7AM, the park run wasn’t until another two hours and Stephen was coming to pick me up.

I stretched lazily as I made my way out of my bed, slipping my feet into a comfortable pair of slippers before heading out of the room, “Lila?” I called, stifling a yawn.

My voice echoed throughout the house but no response came. I knocked lightly on her door twice, before pushing it open and I frowned. Her bed was made, she didn't sleep in it.

I felt my heart sink into my stomach, an anxious ache budding in my temple as I scurried back to my room in search of my phone.

I called Lila immediately I picked up the device, but it went straight to voicemail. Panic set in and I could feel my fingers trembling.

‘Call me…please.’ I typed quickly, hitting send and watching the message for a while.

I called multiple times, all with the same result.
