Jessy’s POV:
My eyes felt like led had been placed against them, I struggled for a moment before I could get them to open and when I finally did, it took a moment before my vision could clear up.Goddess, I had cried so much last night. I didn’t remember falling asleep, but I had woken up sometime in the night to change out of my clothes and then after crying some more I had eventually fallen asleep again.I moved to the small bathroom that had been adjoined to the room and after brushing my teeth, I rinsed my face, wincing when I looked into the mirror and my red eyes stared back me.The events of the previous night was still very fresh in my memory and I knew that it would be for a long time, I was still trying to wrap my head around everything and I hated how overwhelming the situation was and the fact that I had nobody to talk to about any of it. A part of me wanted to call my mom because I knew she would be the easiest to understand me but she had never been good with keeping secrets away from my dad and he was the last person that I wanted to know about any of this.I looked in the mirror once more cringing at my features, I had only been here for one day and I looked like I had been in a fight. This wasn’t the life that I wanted to live here, I didn’t come here on a mission to find Simon or reunite with him, I came here to find myself and be happy and I was determined to exactly that, Alpha Arthur or whatever didn’t get to ruin this for me.My raging thoughts was cut off by my phone ringing inside the room and I made my way there and picked it up. Smiling when I saw Kyla’s name flash across the screen.“Miss me that much?” I asked, the moment I picked up his call, smiling when I heard his soft giggle from the other end.“Hi sis, it felt weird coming into your room last night to meet Kevin sprawled across your bed. The idiot didn’t even let me join him and told me I had to sleep on the floor. Can you imagine I had to beg him to sleep on the bed with him?” Kyla complained and I laughed. He had always been scared of sleeping alone and no matter how much my parents tried, they were never able to get him to sleep alone in his room because he would always find his way to my room at some point in the night and it was really difficult to say no to him.“You have to learn to sleep on your own Kyla.” I said lightly, not wanting to trigger him.“I know, I know. I didn’t call you to get a mini lecture. I miss you.” My heart constricted within my chest when he said the last sentence.“I miss you too pup.” There was barely a think I could do to hide the sadness in my voice.“How has it been?” He askedAnd a part of me wanted to tell him everything. About Simon, who was now called Arthur, about how overwhelming and sad last night had been, about how scared I was of my future in this new pack, but I didn’t. I didn’t do any of that, Instead I made sure my voice was light when I said;“It’s been amazing! You won’t believe it. New faces, new atmosphere, I can’t wait to explore the pack grounds later today and I might take some cute pictures for you, if you promise not to show them to dad. I can’t put it past him that he wouldn’t try to find me through whatever means he can.” Kyla laughed at my words and so did I.“Who are you talking to? It’s that Jess? Of course, it is. She’s the only one you would call at six in the morning. She’s the only one you would call in fact.” I heard Kevin’s grumpy voice and I laughed.“Hi Kevin!” I called.“She said hi. I’ll put the phone on speaker.” Kyla offered.“Jessy, go back to bed. Are you in a different world or something? It’s fucking six on a Saturday morning and mom will soon be here to scream at me to go clean my room. The least I could get is a good enough sleep till that happens, not Kyla giggling in my ears like a girl in love.” Kevin ranted and I stifled a laughter.“Fine, I’ll leave.” I heard Kyla say and the rest of their conversation was murmured, but soon I heard the door open and close and then Kyla’s sweet voice came again.“I’ve never seen a sixteen years old that grumpy before.” He said and I laughed.“He’s your twin you should know why he gets that grumpy. I have to go now though. I want to take a run just to see what my immediate environment looks like and I’ll like to do that before the sun comes out. Ill call you again soon though. I love you.”“Okay, have a good run and don’t forget the pictures.”“I won’t.”“Jess.” Kyla called and his tone made me raise my brows in question.“Hmm?”“We miss you so much. All of us. I’m not saying this so you feel bad or something, I just want you to know that we miss you and we love you. So just be careful out there, and make sure you make leaving worth it. I love you.” He said, ending the call before I could get another word in.My stomach churned with worry as I tried to think of what could have made him say those words. Kyla had always been this sort of person, serious, full of wisdom and saying things like this randomly but sometimes they were usually hidden meanings in them and I needed to make sure this wasn’t one of those times.Sighing heavily, I put my hair into a ponytail, changed into my running clothes and made my way out of the house. I needed to clear my head and a good run always helped with that. I didn’t enjoy doing it back at my pack because no matter how early in the day it was, there were always people on the streets, the pack was usually always buzzing with life and it made it harder to enjoy the simple things like this one.As the morning breeze hit my face, it immediately reminded me that I was in a new environment. The air was fresh, the atmosphere lighter and the streets were empty. As I made my way slowly down the street, praying I didn’t get lost at any point, I briefly wondered how Simon had been able to achieve this in just a couple of years. It usually took time and resources, lots of resources, majority of which was gotten from my dad to start up a new pack and he had accomplished it without going through the process.I had so many questions, where was Emilia? Was she also going to act like she didn’t know me when we met again? She had easily become one of my favorite people while I grew up and I knew that it would hurt just as much if she did the same.I didn’t realize that I had wandered off the path that I had initially started in and into the woods until I could hear the breaking of branches beneath my running shoes, I paused for a second trying to trace my way back through where I believed I could have come through but the longer I went, the more obvious it was that I was lost. It seemed as if I was going deeper and deeper and fear filled my frame.I left my phone in the house so it was impossible to call Lila for help, the trees were soon starting to look and feel more intimidating the further I went and I was desperate for an out.Thankfully, I found a clearing with a lake of some sorts, surrounded by rocks and the moment I tripped on one of the rocks, I knew that I had to rest. I moved towards the lake, quickly rinsing off my bloodied arm and palm before washing my face. I looked around me hoping to find a way out but there was nothing but the lake, trees and rocks.I had remembered seeing a couple of warriors along the way, I couldn’t tell how things worked here and if they patrolled the pack grounds as often and as thoroughly as was the case back home, but I could only hope that they did, as I settled into one of the rocks.I wondered how long it would be before Lila noticed I was missing and how long it would take whoever to find me. Would Simon even care if he heard I was missing? Would he send out a team of men to find me? Judging from his reaction last night, I didn’t think he would. I hated this new image of him that my mind had formed.Sighing heavily, I moved to get off the rock. I might as well try to find my way back myself, if I walked around for a bit maybe I could get out at another part of the pack and then try to find my way back to Lila’s from there.Just as I moved from my spot, I heard it. Low at first, but the moment I turned towards it, I heard it louder. A deep growl to my right and it froze me in my spot, but I turned slowly and the moment I saw it, I could have sworn that my heart seized to beat and all the breath in my lungs escaped. It was a large wolf, one of the biggest I had ever seen and that was saying a lot because I had seen my father and uncle’s wolf and they were both mighty, and this wolf was a close one, but the scariest thing about it was the red eyes, it was just like looking at blood and when it snarled, the action seemed to snap my brain into action, pumping my blood full with adrenaline.I took off in the direction I remembered coming from, running as fast as my legs would let me and in this moment I couldn’t be more grateful for my father’s training over the years. I was really fast and my small stature let me cover a lot of distance but I could hear the wolf just on my heels, and as much as I pushed myself to move faster, I just knew that I could only run for so long. And soon I felt the hard push on my back that sent me to the floor with a scream, I tried to scramble away from the wolf but it moved its large paws placing them across my chest and pressing down with a force that was enough to knock the wind out of me. Tears began falling slowly from my eyes, as the wolf snapped its rotting but sharp looking teeth in my face and I close my eyes as I watched it dip it’s neck. But the pain that I expected never came, instead a louder growl echoed in the space around me, causing the ground that my back was against to vibrate and the pressure that was on my chest was lifted. I scurried from the ground quickly, moving to hide behind one of the trees and watching with wide eyes as the new wolf attacked my predator, tearing him into pieces in a couple of seconds and sending my entire body into shock.I quickly recovered from the shock though when the new wolf began heading in my direction, baring it’s teeth in what looked like anger. I couldn’t remember what I could have done to upset him but I waited with bated breath as he approached me with bared teeth, I didn’t have the strength to try to run anymore, especially knowing that I wasn’t going to get very far and there was obviously nowhere for me to hide. The wolf stopped in front of me and it dawned on me how tiny I was compared to it, but it didn’t lunge and attack like I expected, instead he begins transforming and in a couple of seconds a very naked Simon was standing in front of me. A rush of emotions ran through me at the sight of him. Relief, because I didn’t think I would have been able to deal with it, if it had been another predator, heat, to my face and to somewhere between my legs. I couldn’t be exactly blamed for that one. When I said, Simon had changed, I meant it. His body could be described as perfection, it wou
Arthur’s POV: I was burning. With a lot of different emotions that I couldn’t even hope to explain. He didn’t have the right. And the way she had looked at him? Almost as if he had hung the moon. She used to always look at me like that, I still had many pictures that proved it, but now whenever she looked at me, her eyes were filled with anger. I didn’t know how to deal with that and I hated it so much. But I hated seeing her look at Stephen the way she did even more. I watched as the warriors trained the newer recruits and although everything in me yearned to go over and join them, especially since the majority of then were having difficulties landing very simple techniques but I was too angry if move from my car. I heard Stephen’s bike from almost a mile away and my fists clenched and unclenched by themselves.Soon I watched as he pulled into the parking lot with his boyish smile that was almost permanent painting his lips and lighting up his face. Everything in me wanted to go
Jessy’s POV:I watched as Lila furiously typed ok her phone from the couch in front of me. She had been in a bad mood since I came back and I was surprised because I had been expecting her to be in a pleasant mood from spending the night with her boyfriend. The thought didn't exactly make me happy but I had been expecting it, but since I got back from my run she had been moody and was continually tapping away at her phone screen. “Are you okay?” I asked and when she raised her head to look at me, it was easy to see the anger in her eyes. “Yes. Why?” She asked and I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. “Well, for one you’ve been really quiet for a while now and then you’ve been typing quite furiously on your phone. Are you okay?” Lila sighed heavily and she dropped her phone just beside her to turn to face me. Offering me a small smile which I returned before she spoke. “I’m really sorry about my attitude. I’ve just been really upset.” She revealed. “Do you want to talk about it?” I
Jessy’s POV: “Are you okay? You look like you’ve just seen a ghost.” Lila asked as I walked back to the table, still trying to calm my racing heart. I couldn’t explain what had just happened immediately. I felt disoriented and uncomfortable and I didn’t feel as safe as I did just ten minutes ago. I had felt so comfortable here, it was like I was without any worry in the world but now, all of a sudden that had been taken away from me. “Jess, answer me come on what’s happening, why do you keep looking everywhere?” Lila asked panic in her words. “I saw a woman,” I whispered to her, trying my hardest to keep the panic from my voice. “You saw a woman? So?” She responded, frowning. “She knows me. She knows who I am.” “Jess, come on. It’s not a big deal if one or two people recognize you. You’ve been to several packs, alongside your father so you know that shouldn’t be a problem. As long as you don’t make a big deal about it, I’m pretty sure no one will make a big deal about it.” Lila
Arthur’s POV:“Are you okay?” Lila asked from my side and I cleared my throat, clenching and unclenching my fist, trying to get myself to stay focused on the road in front of me.“Of course, I am. Why do you ask?” I responded, taking my eyes off the road for a couple of seconds to throw a smile her way. “Well for one, you’ve not said a word to me in thirty minutes, you keep clenching and unclenching your fists, you look stiff and like you’re about to snap something in half, and let’s not forget how you treated in your house a couple of nights ago.” She said and I sighed heavily trying to get all my raging emotions under control. “Look Lila, I’m sorry okay. Things have just been getting overwhelming for me lately and I’m just trying to find a balance. I’m trying to find the best middle ground for everything.” “So I have been overwhelming? What did I do?” She asked and I sighed heavily, rolling my eyes. That was the thing with Lila, she was always a pain in my butt. She didn’t know
Jessy’s POV: My alarm ringing at the other end of the room made me wonder why I still listened to these life coaches I watched on the media. “Put your alarm across the room when you go to bed, so when it rings in the morning you have no choice but to get up instead of just hitting the snooze button.” One had said last night. And it had made sense, it had made a lot of sense, but it still wasn’t enough to explain the anger I currently felt at actually trying it. I groaned before moving off my bed to turn the damn thing off. It had been one week of living in this pack and I was happy to say that I was settling in pretty fine. It was less overwhelming and I wasn’t as lonely as I feared I would have been. While Lila was barely around, she tried as best as she could to keep me company and take me out when she was around, and then Stephan. Goddess, he was wonderful. I moved towards the bathroom to brush my teeth and splash some water on my face. I had set my alarm to go off earlier tod
Jessy’s POV: I dashed out of the office to find one of the boys that I had found when I came in on the floor, while the other had a hand covering his face from where he had been hit no doubt.“You worthless piece of shit! How dare you question me? You should be grateful I even let you breathe. You're both nothing without me, how dare you question me? Have you lost your mind? I should hit you again for tha-” the man began saying again, moving to make good on his threat. “Not here. As much as I want to hit you for doing this, I know it's not going to work out well for me so get out of this place and the boys are welcome back any time but you're banned from this place. I don’t want to ever see your face again. Get out.” Michelle said and the man turned angry eyes towards her. He began stalking towards the older woman and I moved to stand in front of her. Taking my best threatening stance, my days of training with my father came to the front of my mind. “She already asked you to leave
Jessy's POV: My heart began hammering in its cage but surprisingly she didn't turn to acknowledge me, she only walked straight up to Ashley and I watched as the poor girl shivered in fear. The woman just had an edge around her that made her look so dangerous, her aura was disturbing, and even as far away as she was, I could still feel it from here and it had goosebumps rising on my skin. “Hey,” Stephen called, tapping on my hand to get my attention. “Are you okay?” He asked again and I offered him a small smile. “Of course, can we get out of here though?” I asked and he nodded. “Of course, I’ll just pack these up and we could have them in my spot. Come on.” “Your spot?” I asked but he was already headed for Ashley to ask for a bag. I made my way out of the cafe, hoping that the fresh evening breeze would help get rid of the fear that had plagued me at seeing the woman, but only a couple of seconds later she exited the building, once again no words were exchanged, I only watched
ArthurThe vast field stretched before me, a sea of green under the clouding sky. I sighed, frowning lightly as the sound of Stephen’s bike coming to a halt echoed in the distance, interrupting the calmness that I was just starting to enjoy. I turned around, squinting in the direction of the noise, my frown deepening as I spotted him getting off the bike with Jessy by his side. They began walking towards me hand in hand. A trail of jealousy skittered down my spine, causing me to clench my fist involuntarily. She had a wide smile on her face and although they were still pretty far away from me, I could almost hear the giggle that escaped her lips when Stephen leaned in to whisper in her ears. The sight of them together never failed to make my blood boil. I hated it. No matter how much I tried to lie to myself that I didn’t care, it never worked. I hated seeing them together so much. The closer they got, the better I could see their faces and although Jessy still had a smile across h
Jessy The rays of sunshine filtered into the room, illuminating it. I stirred, wincing slightly as I searched blindly for my phone. It was just a little past 7AM, the park run wasn’t until another two hours and Stephen was coming to pick me up.I stretched lazily as I made my way out of my bed, slipping my feet into a comfortable pair of slippers before heading out of the room, “Lila?” I called, stifling a yawn.My voice echoed throughout the house but no response came. I knocked lightly on her door twice, before pushing it open and I frowned. Her bed was made, she didn't sleep in it.I felt my heart sink into my stomach, an anxious ache budding in my temple as I scurried back to my room in search of my phone.I called Lila immediately I picked up the device, but it went straight to voicemail. Panic set in and I could feel my fingers trembling.‘Call me…please.’ I typed quickly, hitting send and watching the message for a while.I called multiple times, all with the same result.
JessyThe café was almost empty, save for a few occupied tables. I bent over, humming a familiar tune as I wiped a table. The sound of the bell rang out faintly in my mind, announcing the entrance of someone. I straightened, turning as soon as the customer's chair scraped across the floor, I looked up from where I stood and locked eyes with Stephen. He was sitting, facing me with a wide grin etched on his face. His hair seemed slightly disheveled but for some weird reasons, I found that adorable. Stephen got to his feet, placing a pair of dark shades on the table. “You’re on time.” I greeted, walking into his open arms as I soaked in the warmth of his embrace. He stole a glance at the leather piece strapped to his wrist, “Actually, I’m seven minutes early.” His lips brushed against my hair as he spoke and I smiled. He had texted me earlier in the day to ask if we could hang out at my place right after work hours and I had said yes. Lila wouldn’t be home just yet and I could use a l
Jessy The night air caressed my skin, sending a light shiver down my spine. The view was very beautiful, coming second only to the view of the sunset from the training ground. I felt Stephen’s hand snake around my waist, tugging me closer and I let myself melt into his embrace, taking a subtle sniff of his cologne. There was an air of calmness around him, one that felt different from anything I had ever experienced and I found it soothing. His entire aura was different; not intimidating or dark, just different. “Thank you.” I said, peeling my eyes off the night view to look at him. His smile was still intact, and his eyes glistened with a boyish charm, “For..?” He arched a brow questioningly as he spoke. I shrugged lightly, “Everything I guess, you’ve been so sweet and… you always show me the best view.” His fingers danced absently on my stomach as I spoke and he chuckled at my words, the vibration causing me to close my eyes briefly, my smile widening as I let myself enjoy this
Jessy’s POV: I flipped my eyes open and the ease I felt was one that I was starting to get used to. Coming here was a good idea and I was starting to feel it. I flipped open my eyes and the darkness in the room greeted me. Although I didn’t have a wolf my senses were still pretty sharp and I easily adjusted to the darkness in the room. I knew that it was still pretty early but I felt rested enough already and so I sat up in bed before reaching to turn on the lamp beside the bed. The dim lights flooded the room and I pulled my phone out of charging before going through my texts. There were a couple from my brothers and my father had also sent me a message, he was doing better than I expected and I was impressed that he was actually letting me be. I scrolled further down and found a text from Stephen. It was a simple message asking how I was doing and it made me smile. I had gone to bed earlier last night and that was why I missed the text in the first place but since I started wor
Arthur A bright light shone in my direction, forcing me to put up my hand to shield my eyes. The loud cheering of the crowd grew even louder as I stepped forward, trying to adjust to the sudden burst of light. “Fight, fight, fight, fight!” Was all they yelled, thrumming in unison, like a heartbeat pulsing through the arena. I staggered, my vision adjusting as the figure of a man came to view. He was two times my size, with a physique sculpted from pure muscle and a hardened expression of rage. His long brown hair poured over his shoulders like a waterfall, its wet strands clinging to his skin. A loose cloth was tied protectively around his waist and as he moved, it danced wildly in sync with his movements. He wiped his feet against the sand, slamming his open palm against his chest intimidatingly, his eyes never leaving mine. The crowd seemed to love it as they cheered, screamed and rattled the very foundation of the cage. A pile of bodies lined the side entrance of the cage, a
Jessy’s POV: My steady breathing did nothing to reduce the rapid palpitation of my heart. Why hadn’t Lila mentioned it? I crossed my fingers, willing myself to act nonchalant. “Woah, relax. It’s nothing too intense, besides, it doesn’t happen often.” Stephen said, obviously noticing my worried expression. I forced a light scoff, “Sorry, I just detest any kind of physical activity.” “I can tell.” He said, tugging me lightly into his arms, “I’m sure you’d be fine. Also, I can’t wait to see you in all your beauty.” I shrugged away from his grasp, his last sentence upsetting me in a way I was certain he hadn’t intended. “Let me walk you out.” I managed to say, clearing my throat as I gestured towards the door. He said nothing in protest, simply held the door open as he followed my lead. The sky was now dark and the streets were only illuminated by the street lamps that stood at either side of the roads. The light caught on Stephan’s face and his boyish and handsome features surp
