Chapter 9

Leisha boasted loudly in the restaurant as if she could already see herself holding a fortune in her hands.

The person sitting across from her looked skeptical, "Miss Ward, I just don’t understand why you would destroy the company your mother worked so hard to build."

A flicker of contempt crossed Leisha’s eyes. “She doesn’t deserve to be called my mother!”

Those words struck my mother’s heart like a heavy blow as she listened from behind the door. Anger and disappointment surged within her, and she could no longer contain her fury and shock. She pushed the door open and burst in.

“Leisha! What do you mean by this? Are you really trying to drive our family business into the ground?” my mother demanded, her voice trembling.

But the girl who had once been so sweet and innocent now looked at her with nothing but a cold smile.

“Oh, my dear ‘mom’—” Leisha drawled mockingly, dragging out the words.
