Chapter 12

I could only watch helplessly as the brutal scene unfolded before me.

“Now, tell me, who’s worse off?” Leisha panted, pausing to catch her breath. “If you had listened to me back then, if Sarah had given me a kidney before she died…”

She rolled up her sleeve, revealing the track marks from countless needles. “Look at these! Every day of dialysis feels like living on the edge of hell.”

Raising the baseball bat again, she swung it with even more force, as if trying to channel all her hatred into every blow she delivered to my mother.

“This is what you deserve!” she shouted.

Even under such relentless cruelty, my mother tried to crawl toward her.

“You killed my daughter…” she murmured, her voice weak but laced with anger.

But Leisha had lost all reason.

She stomped down with her high heels, crushing my mom's fingers until they were a bloody mess.

“You old hag! Still trying to fight back?” she laughed hysterically. “Today, I’ll make sure you disappear for good!”
