Book Two: Branch Five

Joshua turned his phone screen to the table and took a huge spoon from his scrambled eggs. He sighed and turned the screen again as if he was anxiously waiting for a phone call but of course he was. Why was she not calling him? Was she not to call him first thing in the morning to apologize? He had barely had a shut eye but had to wake up so early because his mom was all up in his business.

"I have told you to stop bringing your phone to the table," Xavier said as he noticed his son's constant checking of his phone.

"Let him be" Jessica murmured to him touching his hand gently. "Joshua honey are you waiting for a call from one of the partners?" she asked trying to take her hand off her husband's hand to which Xavier pulled and intertwined his fingers between hers.

"No," he said shaking his head dripping the phone to his screen.

"Or have you gotten a girlfriend?" Jeanne asked lifting her eyes to his as if she knew something.
