Chapter 7

I really drank too much today. I must be hallucinating; otherwise, how could I see Henry standing there?

Henry walked into the room, turned, and pinned me against the door, his voice suppressed and pained.

"Why would you choose some random escort at the nightclub over me?" he demanded, his voice cracking. "Is he better than me? I can't believe it."

I was stunned, thinking it had to be a hallucination. Otherwise, how would he know my boyfriend's job?

"Henry, you're incredible," I said, forcing a smile. "Do you also know that he's just someone I paid for?"

He froze, his expression shifting to one of disbelief. "Why?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper.

"To give Macie some peace of mind," I replied, my voice trembling. "I fell for her boyfriend. I know it's shameless, and I can't do that to her."

His eyes widened, and he struggled as he said a name. "You… You like him?" he stammered. The name sounded a lot like his, but I knew it was not him.
