Chapter 14 - The test of power

(Ronan's pov)

I climbed to the window and walked inside Nyla's room. She was sleeping peacefully without any worries or tension!

"Nyla, wake up!" Going closer, I whispered in her ear.

I called her name again but her sleep was so deep that my voice couldn't wake her up!

"Nylaaaaaaaaa" I groaned and she opened her eyes in fear.

"What are you doing here?" Rubbing her eyes, she asked.

"Something happened, and I need your help!" I replied.

She wasn't part of my plan, I wanted her to stay away from me yet here I am pleading for help. Power can really make anyone blind!!!

I want her safety but I can't back down from the promise I made to my mother.

"Where are we going?" She asked with curiosity filled eyes.

I sighed and held her wrist and dragged her to the window.

"What is going on?" Curiousity was eating her alive!

I looked into her eyes and replied "you're my mate, Nyla!" The moment my words reached her ears, a look of happiness flashed on her face.

"Are you serious?" She asked again.

"Yes!" And I reassured her.

Her face was gloomy last night because of my lie that she is not my mate, I thought lying can protect her but my greed for the Alpha's position is making everything conflicted!

Before stepping our foot outside I explained her every single thing that had happened in the woods and told her to be prepared for the test.

"Ronan, how can I do this?" She asked.

I rested my one hand on her shoulder and gently tucked her hair behind her ear with my other hand to calm her down.

"I believe in you!" Words left my mouth and a smile appeared on her lips.

(Nyla's pov)

Ronan not only told me the truth about his mate but he also trusted me with the test.

I am just a normal human, I have no powers unlike others of his clan and this factor was enough to make me worry about his future!

He wants to be the Alpha of his clan and I was the first step but what if I fail the test???

I can't be the reason for his demise...

He lifted me up in his arms and jumped down from the window. The entire walk, he held me tightly in between his arms and I fixed my gaze on his face for the entire walk whereas his arms were strong and bold and they made me feel safe and guarded.

"We're here!" He said.

I stood up on my feet and held his hand with my strong grip.

"You didn't even let me do my make up!" I complained and he smiled!

"You think make up is important right now?" His question was enough to shut my mouth and I stopped spating unnecessary words.

After a while, the rest of the clan members walked in and their eyes were scanning me from top to bottom as if they saw a ghost!

"I am the only human here, right?" I aksed with fear.

Ronan looked at me and replied "I'll protect you, don't worry!"

All of a sudden, A strong figure walked over to us and everyone started bowing to him, so I did the same.

"He is my father, and our current Alpha!" Ronan briefed me about his family.

"Is everyone ready for the test?" His father asked.

"His mate is a human, I don't think we need a competition now!" A guy with brown hair spoke interrupting the mood.

As soon as he objected, everyone nodded their heads in agreement and that moment made me more nervous than I was before!

"Brother, don't be so quick to judge" Ronan replied and I understood the whole situation, it was a war between him and his brother for the Alpha's position.

"Do not be afraid, nobody can harm you as long as I am here!" Ronan's dad reassured me and I felt relieved for the first time.

"In order to win the test, one must have the energy to break the red stone." I was shocked by his words.

"Father, this test is not fair, she is a human!" Ronan objected yet his father ignored.

The red stone was brought in front of us and it was now our turn to break it.

His brother's mate waa the first to try but even with all her powers, she couldn't break it and after a lot of struggle she only managed to form a small crack on it.

"Now it's your turn!" Ronan's father commanded.
