Chapter 16. Katrina.

The next morning, after tossing and turning all night on the bed, trying to figure my way out of the hell hole, I woke up exhausted and in a fouler mood. The dark circles under my eyes seemed to throb in sync with my pounding headache. I decided to stay in all day, hoping to escape the chaos that had become my life. But a knock on the door prevented that from happening. At first, it was a gentle tap, but when I ignored it, the knocking grew louder and more insistent. I threw the covers over my head, hoping that whoever was knocking would quit it and leave, but that never happened. If anything, it grew more persistent, like a drumbeat in my brain.

Frustrated, I sat up, my movements jerky, and climbed out of the bed. My feet stomped towards the door, my bare feet making soft slapping sounds on the cold floor. I flung the door open, ready to snap at whoever was behind it, but Arthur's jovial voice broke through my anger.
