Chapter 8

Walter was in the operating theater for five hours.

The three of us waited anxiously in the hallway, sometimes taking turns.

Neither Mom nor I had the heart to bring up the divorce proceedings at such a crucial moment. I even went to pay the deposit for the operation costs, which was about 20,000 dollars.

Finally, the red light went off, and Walter was wheeled out of the theater. He was still unconscious.

"Doctor, what's my son's condition?"

"His life is no longer in danger, but if he doesn't wake up in 48 hours, he will forever remain in a vegetative state. It's now completely up to the patient whether he wants to wake up from it or not," the doctor answered with a sigh.

It was now up to him whether he wanted to wake up or not?

I looked at Walter.

If he dared to remain asleep forever, that meant he was purposely delaying my divorce from him. And I would never allow that.
