Wounds And Gratitude

Ashton’s words played in my mind like a broken record and I felt something in my chest that I could not explain. “No, no, no. Absolutely not!” I finally spoke.

He looked away from the window and looked at me. He glanced at the bottle in my hand and then reached out for it. The crazy thing is that I let him have it. I did not pull it away from him.

He took the bottle and then took a long gulp of the whiskey. He released a sigh after swallowing the liquor.

“Ashton, what the hell? You don’t get to tell me that. Especially now.” I took a step away from him and folded my arms on my chest.

He laughed lowly. “So I don’t get to tell you the truth? You want me to lie to you?” He brought the bottle to his lips once more after speaking. He drank the last of it and cleared his throat.

“You are married to my sister. You have a child with her, Ashton!” It felt like old wounds were being reopened and I hated the feeling.
