After thirty minutes of explaining nothing but the truth to Zayn, we sat in silence as he tried to process it all. He had a small frown on his face and kept tapping his foot on the hardwood floor. He cupped his chin in his hand and kept staring at the door.“Zayn…” “Just a few more seconds, Lara, please.” He breathed out a sigh after pleading with me to give him more time to think. After a few seconds, he finally looked at me. “You didn’t have to lie to me, you know.”I looked down at my hands on my lap. “Yeah. Yeah, I know,” I replied in a breathy way. “I’m sorry.”I then felt his arm wrapped around me as he pulled me closer to him. “I’m not mad at you. I’m just sad that you felt the need to keep me out of the loop about something as…complicated as this.” I looked up at him and he gave me a small smile. “You’re too good for me,” I said under my breath but he heard me clearly. He scoffed lightly and brought me much closer to him. Since Jacob’s blackmail, I finally felt hope and comf
It had been two weeks since I told Zayn everything that happened with Jacob and me; about him blackmailing us into hacking the gateway so his sleeper agents could enter into Beacon. We brought Azula, Julia, Bunny, and Hamish into the fold by telling them about everything. It was shocking news to Julia and Hamish because they were not with us the night that we helped cover up the murder. But they made it clear that they were standing with us nevertheless.Even Serenity who I was not too sure of at first, made it known that she had our backs. So in the end, what did we all agree to do? We followed Zayn’s plan with our fingers crossed, of course. His plan was to do absolutely nothing, that we should ignore Jacob and continue with the merger. And that was what we did. We trusted what Zayn said, that Jacob did not have a shred of proof or evidence and that he was bluffing. Well, it looked like it was true because it had been two weeks, the merger was officially over and all the demon p
This was the hugest event that I had ever been to. I thought the outside of the building was grand, but the interior was breathtaking. Everyone looked so regal and important. There was a live band playing beautifully and catered dinner. Even the waiters were wearing suits. The decor of the place was very classy and impressive. I did not feel like I belonged there. Yes, I was the future queen of the demon people but deep inside, I was still an omega. I was still a low-ranked werewolf. And that made me feel out of place. There were demons and werewolves everywhere that I looked. And the great thing about it was that nobody was alone. There was no awkwardness and everyone was sociable.“You good?” Zayn noticed my timidness and held my hand. His calloused hand wrapped around my hand and it shook away my nerves away. Reminded that Zayn was by my side, I now stood with my head held high. “Yeah, I am now.” I gave him a small warm smile. We walked side by side as we followed Ashton to wh
It was like time stopped. My mouth became dry like sandpaper and my heart was pounding in my chest. I tried to speak but could not as one of the officers placed handcuffs on my wrists. He made it tighter than I was comfortable with but this was no time to complain.Everyone was looking at us and there were gasps and indistinct murmuring from the guests. When I blinked, it was like I was pulled from my shock and right back to the harsh reality of what was happening. The other officer had handcuffed Zayn and the lady introduced herself as a detective and began to read our rights to us. “Excuse me? Excuse me?!” I heard Ashton’s voice. He came running with Zoe by his side. “What the hell is going on here?” “Your friends are being arrested, that’s what’s happening. Now if you want more information, sir, kindly follow us to the station,” The detective informed Ashton, and Zoe started crying. The officer gently pushed me forward and I started walking. They did the same to Zayn and we wer
I blinked rapidly for a few seconds and the detective repeated her question. I rubbed my thumb over my nails as a way to distract myself from how anxious and nervous I was. “No, you promised me,” I spoke and she squinted her eyes as a way to show her confusion.“What?” She blurted out. “You promised me. You told me that if I answered your question about the October 28, 2020 picture, you might answer mine.” I reminded her, and she smiled. “I want to know how you got that picture.” She clicked her tongue and adjusted herself in the chair she was sitting in. “First of all, I did not promise you. But nevertheless, I am going to answer your question.” I smiled lopsidedly. “Thank you.” I had a very strong feeling that the person that handed in the picture was Jacob. It had to be. All of this was his work. He was taking revenge. “This picture…” Detective Stone held up the image. “And along with all the other pieces of evidence we have against you and your friends were handed in anonymou
I am not going to lie, I had always wondered once or twice a year how I would look in a jail uniform. It did not cross my mind a lot, but it had a couple of times. There was no need to wonder again because I was now wearing one; a jail uniform. It was a jumpsuit and it had a solid gray color. I wore crocs most of the time on my feet and I kept my hair in a messy bun almost all the time. The food here was not bad but also not good. But I guess that was prison life.It was way less scary than I thought. But in saying that, I was not trying to say that it was a flower garden either, I was still sh*t scared most of the time. Prisons were a place where criminals and bad people were held as a way to pay for their wrongs and be given the opportunity to change and become better. They could be violent places but homicides behind bars often happened when warning signs were ignored or people were knowingly put in dangerous situations. It had been a week since I had been here. I can’t count
I heard a small ringing noise in my ear and then voices. The voices would get louder for one second and just suddenly get very low. My breathing was leveled and my eyes were closed. I felt a dull pain in my throat and my body felt heavy. In a few seconds, I opened my eyes slowly and the light blinded my vision. It did not take long and my eyes adjusted to the light around me and I realized that I was in a room. I was not far from the window and the bed I was on was not too comfortable. “She’s awake,” I heard someone whisper, and I looked in the direction of the voice. I saw two ladies and from the way they were dressed, they looked like nurses. One of them had a small notepad in her hand and a pen in the other while the other nurse had some medical instruments in her hand. I think I knew what was in her hands but I forgot the names. The one with the notepad was darker in complexion and kept a warm smile on her face as she approached me. “Hi there. It’s great to see you awake.” He
A guard stood at the door as I sat across Zayn. We tried to hug each other but were told to refrain from physical contact. So we only relished being in the same room as each other. I could smell his cologne and that placed a warm feeling in my chest. “So, uh…how are you?” Zayn began as he flashed me a small smile. He was wearing jeans, a plaid shirt, and converse on his feet. It was clear that he needed a haircut, his hair was getting longer. “I’m okay.” I smacked my lips softly. “Considering that I almost died yesterday and I’m able to walk around without assistance, I would say I’m peachy.” I tried to joke but a look of horror crossed Zayn’s face.“What!?” He reached for my hand but the guard said loudly, “No contact!” He withdrew his hands and waited for me to explain myself. “Well, um, I found out yesterday that I had an allergy.” “But you don’t have any.” He argued softly.“Yeah, that’s what I thought too. But after eating a few slices of bacon yesterday, I was almost singing
