A Little Progress

A guard stood at the door as I sat across Zayn. We tried to hug each other but were told to refrain from physical contact. So we only relished being in the same room as each other. I could smell his cologne and that placed a warm feeling in my chest.

“So, uh…how are you?” Zayn began as he flashed me a small smile. He was wearing jeans, a plaid shirt, and converse on his feet. It was clear that he needed a haircut, his hair was getting longer.

“I’m okay.” I smacked my lips softly. “Considering that I almost died yesterday and I’m able to walk around without assistance, I would say I’m peachy.” I tried to joke but a look of horror crossed Zayn’s face.

“What!?” He reached for my hand but the guard said loudly, “No contact!” He withdrew his hands and waited for me to explain myself.

“Well, um, I found out yesterday that I had an allergy.”

“But you don’t have any.” He argued softly.

“Yeah, that’s what I thought too. But after eating a few slices of bacon yesterday, I was almost singing
