Dead To Me

Tap. Tap. Tap. My fingers tapped on the metal table. The room was cold and the air was dry. Artificial light lit up the entire space and a guard stood at the door.

I was wearing my hair down for the first time since I was incarcerated. The gray jumpsuit that I was wearing matched how I felt: gloomy.

I wanted to be hopeful, I wanted to believe without any hint of doubt that my sister would never do what Jacob had accused her of. But what if the vampire king was right? Jacob was not one to bluff, I learned that the hard way.

So, yeah, my mind was gloomy.

The noise of the door opening captured my attention and I saw Zoe walk in. She was wearing an elegant floral dress and had a blank expression on her face as she approached me.

She then sat in the chair across from me, grabbed a rubberband from her wrist, and pulled her hair into a ponytail with the help of the band. When she was done, she flashed me a small smile. “Hi.”
