“No, you’re not the only one who has noticed, Blair. They both must have a quarreling going on or something.”

“It’s unsettling, though. My blood almost ran cold when I saw the glare they both were throwing at each other at the hallway.” The second woman whispered to her accomplice.

As they gossiped, neither of them bothered about me. Probably because I was just a slave like them and wouldn’t dare rat them out.

They are right.

They can speak about Xavier and his cheating wife for all I care. What's striking is how quickly this hallway gets dirty, even after being cleaned the day before.

"Hey, sorry to ask..." A tap on my shoulder interrupted my thoughts. I turned to face the two inquisitive women.

"We've noticed you vanish by 7 p.m.," one said, eyes narrowed. "You don't sleep in the maids' quarters either. Where have you been staying?"

I paused mid-mop, relishing their anticipation as I answered them. "The cave."
